ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಂದ್ರ ಇಂದು ಎಷ್ಟಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಇಂದು ಎಷ್ಟಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಯಾರೂ ಕೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಆ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಆಪತ್ತು ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ಕಡೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ನೋಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸಂಪದೋ ಮಹತಾಮೇವ ಮಹತಾಮೇವ ಚಾಪದಃ ।
ವರ್ಧತೇ ಕ್ಷೀಯತೇ ಚನ್ದ್ರೋ ನ ತು ತಾರಾಗಣಃ ಕ್ವಚಿತ್ ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
संपदो महतामेव महतामेव चापदः ।
वर्धते क्षीयते चन्द्रो न तु तारागणः क्वचित् ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)
saṃpado mahatāmeva mahatāmeva cāpadaḥ |
vardhate kṣīyate candro na tu tārāgaṇaḥ kvacit ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಸಂಪದಃ (संपदः, saṃpadaḥ) = ಸಂಪತ್ತುಗಳು (riches)
- ಮಹತಾಮ್ (महताम्, mahatām) = ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಗೆ (of the great)
- ಏವ (एव, eva) = ಮಾತ್ರ (alone)
- ಮಹತಾಮ್ (महताम्, mahatām) = ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಗೆ (of the great)
- ಏವ (एव, eva) = ಮಾತ್ರ (alone)
- ಚ (च, ca) = ಮತ್ತು (and)
- ಆಪದಃ (आपदः, āpadaḥ) = ಆಪತ್ತುಗಳು (misfortunes)
- ವರ್ಧತೇ (वर्धते, vardhate) = ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ (waxes)
- ಕ್ಷೀಯತೇ (क्षीयते, kṣīyate) = ಕರಗುತ್ತಾನೆ (wanes)
- ಚನ್ದ್ರಃ (चन्द्रः, candraḥ) = ಚಂದ್ರ (the moon)
- ನ ತು (न तु, na tu) = ಆದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲ (but not)
- ತಾರಾಗಣಃ (तारागणः, tārāgaṇaḥ) = ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳ ಗುಂಪು (the host of stars)
- ಕ್ವಚಿತ್ (क्वचित्, kvacit) = ಎಂದೂ (ever)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸಂಪತ್ತೂ ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಗೇ, ಆಪತ್ತೂ ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಗೇ. ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದೂ ಕರಗುವುದೂ ಚಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ. ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳ ಗುಂಪಿಗೆ ಎಂದೂ ಅದು ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Great fortune belongs to the great, and so does great misfortune. It is the moon that waxes and wanes. The host of stars never does either.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಸಂಪದ್ ಮತ್ತು ಆಪದ್ ಎರಡೂ ಒಂದೇ ಪದ್ ಎಂಬ ಧಾತುವಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಂತ ಪದಗಳು. ಸಂ ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಎಂಬ ಉಪಸರ್ಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೇರೆ. ಎರಡು ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಶಬ್ದದಲ್ಲೇ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು.
Sampad and apad both stand on the same root pad. Only the prefixes sam and a differ. Two opposite conditions are kept together in the very sound of the words.
ಮಹತಾಮೇವ ಎಂಬುದು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಒಂದೇ ಪದವನ್ನು ಎರಡೂ ತುದಿಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಇವು ಎರಡು ಬೇರೆ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲ, ಒಂದೇ ವಿಷಯದ ಎರಡು ಮುಖ ಎಂಬುದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
Mahatam eva comes twice. Putting the same phrase at both ends shows these are not two matters but two faces of one.
ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳು ಸ್ಥಿರ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವಕ್ಕೆ ಕರಗುವ ಸಂಕಟವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಚುಚ್ಚು.
The verse is not praising the stars for being steady. The sting is that they have neither the pain of waning nor the power to wax.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡವರಿಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸೋಲೂ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸೋಲಿನ ಸುದ್ದಿಯೇ ಅವರು ಏನನ್ನೋ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದರು ಎಂಬುದರ ದಾಖಲೆ.
Those who take up large work also meet large failure. The news of the failure is itself the record that they attempted something.
ಇದು ಸೋಲನ್ನು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಕಾರಣವಲ್ಲ. ಏರಿಳಿತ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಮೊದಲೇ ಗೊತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಇಳಿತ ಬಂದಾಗ ಗಾಬರಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ, ಅಷ್ಟೇ.
This is not a reason to make failure into a boast. If one knows beforehand that there will be a rise and a fall, there is less alarm when the fall comes. That is all.
