ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
O Pashupati, what shall we say of your daring? O Shambhu, who has courage like yours? How could others come by this state of standing in oneself? Seeing the dissolution in which the host of gods slips from its place, the host of sages trembles and the whole manifest world perishes, you alone move about fearless, thick with bliss.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 34ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 34
The poison of the last two verses grows here into the dissolution of the world. The verse begins from the courage of one who once saved the worlds and arrives at a steadiness that does not flinch even when everything melts away. Kim brumah, what shall we say, is a plural form, so the poet speaks taking all his hearers along with him.
The verse builds its picture of dissolution with three present participles. Bhrashyaddevaganam is the host of gods slipping from their places, trasanmuniganam is the host of sages trembling, nashyatprapancham is the manifest universe perishing. All three qualify the word layam, so the dissolution is described only by what happens within it. In that hour the gods and the sages have nothing to stand on, while for Shiva it is his own condition.
Viharati is a light word, to move about, to play. Using that very word of the hour when everything ends is where the picture of the verse lies. Anandasandra means thick with bliss, sandra being what is dense and not thinned. Atmanah sthitih is the state of standing in oneself, and there is a reason why others cannot come by it. It is not a quality that can be acquired. It is what remains when every outer support is gone. In the Shaiva and Advaita background what remains at dissolution is the one reality, and Shiva is the ground of that dissolution, so there is no room in him for fear.
It is worth noticing that the word ananda appears in this verse, since the work is called Shivananda Lahari, the wave of Shiva’s bliss. Sahasa here is not bravery alone. It is the capacity to stand without any support. The next verse then sets this language of wonder aside and turns to a daily remembrance. The metre is shardulavikridita, a quarter of nineteen syllables with a pause after the twelfth.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
When the power goes off suddenly at night there is a moment of confusion in the house. But someone gets up without alarm and reaches straight for the place where the matchbox is kept.
It is not that they cannot see the dark. They know that house well. Those who stay steady when everything seems to be coming down need not be stronger than the rest. It is enough that they know where they are standing.
