ಒಂದು ಕೆಲಸದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಶ್ರಮವಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಹೊರಗಿನವರಿಗೆ ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಆ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಒಂದು ನೇರವಾದ, ದೇಹದ ಅನುಭವದ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವಿದ್ವಾನೇವ ವಿಜಾನಾತಿ ವಿದ್ವಜ್ಜನಪರಿಶ್ರಮಮ್ ।
ನ ಹಿ ವನ್ಧ್ಯಾ ವಿಜಾನಾತಿ ಗುರ್ವೀಂ ಪ್ರಸವವೇದನಾಮ್ ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
विद्वानेव विजानाति विद्वज्जनपरिश्रमम् ।
न हि वन्ध्या विजानाति गुर्वीं प्रसववेदनाम् ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)
vidvāneva vijānāti vidvajjanapariśramam |
na hi vandhyā vijānāti gurvīṃ prasavavedanām ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ವಿದ್ವಾನ್ ಏವ (विद्वान् एव, vidvān eva) = ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸನೇ (the learned man alone)
- ವಿಜಾನಾತಿ (विजानाति, vijānāti) = ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ (knows)
- ವಿದ್ವಜ್ಜನಪರಿಶ್ರಮಮ್ (विद्वज्जनपरिश्रमम्, vidvajjanapariśramam) = ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು (the labour of learned men)
- ನ ಹಿ ವನ್ಧ್ಯಾ (न हि वन्ध्या, na hi vandhyā) = ಬಂಜೆಯಾದವಳು ಖಂಡಿತ ಇಲ್ಲ (a woman who has borne no child certainly does not)
- ವಿಜಾನಾತಿ (विजानाति, vijānāti) = ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ (know)
- ಗುರ್ವೀಮ್ (गुर्वीम्, gurvīm) = ಭಾರವಾದ, ಹೆರಿಗೆಯ (the heavy pain of)
- ಪ್ರಸವವೇದನಾಮ್ (प्रसववेदनाम्, prasavavedanām) = ಹೆರಿಗೆಯ ನೋವನ್ನು (the pain of childbirth)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸನ ಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸನೇ ತಿಳಿಯಬಲ್ಲ. ಹೆರಿಗೆಯ ಭಾರವಾದ ನೋವನ್ನು ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆರದವಳು ತಿಳಿಯಲಾರಳು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Only a learned man knows what the labour of learned men costs, just as one who has borne no child does not know the heavy pain of childbirth.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಈ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ. ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದವನಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಗೊತ್ತು ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಬಲವಾದ ನಿದರ್ಶನ ಸಿಗುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ.
The comparison is a famous one in Sanskrit. It would be hard to find a stronger illustration of the saying that only the one who has been through it knows.
ಗುರ್ವೀ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಭಾರವಾದದ್ದು ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಅದೇ ಪದಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಆ ಜೋಡಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಸಾಲನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಬಿಗಿಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
The word gurvi means heavy, and the same word also means with child. That double sense tightens the line.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ದಿನದಿನದ ಅನುಭವ. ರೋಗಿಯ ನೋವು ಎಷ್ಟು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಹೊರಗಿನಿಂದ ಅಳೆಯಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನಂಬುವುದೇ ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ.
In medicine this is a daily experience. Pain cannot be measured from outside. Believing what the patient says is the first step.
ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಸುಲಭ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಮೊದಲು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ನೋಡಬೇಕು. ಆಗ ಮಾತು ತಾನಾಗಿಯೇ ಮೃದುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
Before calling someone else’s work easy, it is worth doing it once. After that the words soften on their own.
