ಒಂದೇ ಧಾತುವಿನ ಮೂರು ರೂಪಗಳಿಂದ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೋದವರು, ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಹೋಗುವವರು.
ಆ ಮೂರು ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಕಾಲದ ಮೂರೂ ಮುಖಗಳು ಬಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತವೆ. ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೋಗುವಿಕೆಯ ನಡುವೆ ಉಳಿಯುವುದು ಯಾವುದು?
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯಾತಾ ಯಾನ್ತಿ ಚ ಯಾತಾರೋ ಲೋಕಾಃ ಶೋಕಾಧಿಕಾ ಭುವಿ ।
ಕಾವ್ಯಸಮ್ಬನ್ಧಿನೀ ಕೀರ್ತಿಃ ಸ್ಥಾಯಿನೀ ನಿರಪಾಯಿನೀ ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
याता यान्ति च यातारो लोकाः शोकाधिका भुवि ।
काव्यसम्बन्धिनी कीर्तिः स्थायिनी निरपायिनी ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (English IAST)
yātā yānti ca yātāro lokāḥ śokādhikā bhuvi |
kāvyasambandhinī kīrtiḥ sthāyinī nirapāyinī ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯಾತಾಃ (याताः, yātāḥ) = ಹೋದವರು (those who have gone)
- ಯಾನ್ತಿ ಚ (यान्ति च, yānti ca) = ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ (and are going)
- ಯಾತಾರಃ (यातारः, yātāraḥ) = ಹೋಗಲಿರುವವರು (and those who will go)
- ಲೋಕಾಃ (लोकाः, lokāḥ) = ಜನರು, ಲೋಕಗಳು (the people, the worlds)
- ಶೋಕಾಧಿಕಾಃ (शोकाधिकाः, śokādhikāḥ) = ದುಃಖ ತುಂಬಿದವರು (full of grief)
- ಭುವಿ (भुवि, bhuvi) = ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (on earth)
- ಕಾವ್ಯಸಮ್ಬನ್ಧಿನೀ ಕೀರ್ತಿಃ (काव्यसम्बन्धिनी कीर्तिः, kāvyasambandhinī kīrtiḥ) = ಕಾವ್ಯದೊಡನೆ ಬೆಸೆದ ಕೀರ್ತಿ (the fame that is tied to poetry)
- ಸ್ಥಾಯಿನೀ (स्थायिनी, sthāyinī) = ನಿಲ್ಲುವಂಥದ್ದು (is lasting)
- ನಿರಪಾಯಿನೀ (निरपायिनी, nirapāyinī) = ಕೇಡಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು (free from decay)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹೋದವರು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಇರುವವರು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಬರುವವರೂ ಹೋಗಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಜನ ದುಃಖ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡವರು. ಆದರೆ ಕಾವ್ಯದೊಡನೆ ಬೆಸೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೇಡಿಲ್ಲ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Those who went have gone, those here are going, and those to come will go as well. The people of this earth are heavy with grief. Only the fame that is bound up with poetry endures, and it knows no decay.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಯಾತಾಃ, ಯಾಂತಿ, ಯಾತಾರಃ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರೂ ಪದಗಳು ಯಾ ಎಂಬ ಒಂದೇ ಧಾತುವಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದವು. ಭೂತ, ವರ್ತಮಾನ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯತ್ತು ಮೂರನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೋಡಿಸುವ ಚಮತ್ಕಾರ ಇದು.
The three words yatah, yanti and yatarah all come from the single root ya. It is a feat of craft to line up past, present and future in a single line.
ನಿರಪಾಯಿನೀ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಪಾಯವಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು, ನಾಶವಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು. ಸ್ಥಾಯಿನೀ ಎಂದರೆ ನಿಂತು ಉಳಿಯುವಂಥದ್ದು. ಎರಡೂ ಪದಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಬರೀ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ.
Nirapayini means without harm or destruction, and sthayini means what stands and remains. Together they say that this fame does not merely last, it lasts safely.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಬರೆದದ್ದು ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ನಿಜ. ತಾತ ಬರೆದಿಟ್ಟ ದಿನಚರಿ, ಅಜ್ಜಿ ಬರೆದಿಟ್ಟ ಅಡುಗೆಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುವ ಕೀರ್ತಿಯ ಸಣ್ಣ ರೂಪಗಳು.
It is still true that what is written stays. A grandfather’s diary or a grandmother’s recipe book are small forms of the fame that remains in a family.
ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕವಿಯಾಗಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಂಡದ್ದನ್ನು, ಕಲಿತದ್ದನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿಡುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವೇ ಮುಂದಿನವರಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಕೊಡುಗೆ.
One need not become a great poet. The habit of writing down what one has seen and learnt is itself a gift to those who come later.
