ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಕಾವ್ಯಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ರೀತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಬಗೆ. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವೈದರ್ಭೀ ರೀತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಮೃದುವಾದ, ಸರಳವಾದ, ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಹಿತವಾದ ಶೈಲಿ.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂರು ರೂಪಕಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅನಭ್ರವೃಷ್ಟಿಃ ಶ್ರವಣಾಮೃತಸ್ಯ
ಸರಸ್ವತೀವಿಭ್ರಮಜನ್ಮಭೂಮಿಃ ।
ವೈದರ್ಭರೀತಿಃ ಕೃತಿನಾಮುದೇತಿ
ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯಲಾಭಪ್ರತಿಭೂಃ ಪದಾನಾಮ್ ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅನಭ್ರವೃಷ್ಟಿಃ (अनभ्रवृष्टिः, anabhravṛṣṭiḥ) = ಮೋಡವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಬರುವ ಮಳೆ (a rain that falls without clouds)
- ಶ್ರವಣಾಮೃತಸ್ಯ (श्रवणामृतस्य, śravaṇāmṛtasya) = ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಅಮೃತವಾದ್ದರ (of what is nectar to the ear)
- ಸರಸ್ವತೀವಿಭ್ರಮಜನ್ಮಭೂಮಿಃ (सरस्वतीविभ्रमजन्मभूमिः, sarasvatīvibhramajanmabhūmiḥ) = ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯ ವಿಲಾಸ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ನೆಲ (the birthplace of Sarasvati’s play)
- ವೈದರ್ಭರೀತಿಃ (वैदर्भरीतिः, vaidarbharītiḥ) = ವೈದರ್ಭೀ ರೀತಿ (the Vaidarbhi manner)
- ಕೃತಿನಾಮ್ (कृतिनाम्, kṛtinām) = ಸಿದ್ಧಹಸ್ತರಾದವರಿಗೆ (for the accomplished)
- ಉದೇತಿ (उदेति, udeti) = ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ (rises)
- ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯಲಾಭಪ್ರತಿಭೂಃ (सौभाग्यलाभप्रतिभूः, saubhāgyalābhapratibhūḥ) = ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ದೊರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಜಾಮೀನು (the surety that good fortune will be had)
- ಪದಾನಾಮ್ (पदानाम्, padānām) = ಪದಗಳಿಗೆ (for the words)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಅಮೃತವಾದ್ದರ ಮೋಡವಿಲ್ಲದ ಮಳೆ, ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯ ವಿಲಾಸ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ನೆಲ, ಪದಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ದೊರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಜಾಮೀನು. ಇಂಥ ವೈದರ್ಭೀ ರೀತಿ ಸಿದ್ಧಹಸ್ತರಾದವರಿಗೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
A cloudless rain of what is nectar to the ear, the birthplace of Sarasvati’s play, the surety for the good fortune of words: such is the Vaidarbhi manner, and it rises for those who are accomplished.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಪ್ರತಿಭೂ ಎಂದರೆ ಜಾಮೀನು ನಿಲ್ಲುವವನು. ವ್ಯವಹಾರದ ಪದವೊಂದನ್ನು ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತರುವುದು ಈ ಕವಿಯ ಚಮತ್ಕಾರ.
Pratibhu means one who stands surety. Bringing a word from the world of business into a line of poetry is this poet’s stroke.
ವೈದರ್ಭೀ ರೀತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ವಿದರ್ಭ ದೇಶದ ಶೈಲಿ. ಸಮಾಸಗಳು ಕಡಿಮೆ, ಪದಗಳು ಮೃದು, ಅರ್ಥ ಬೇಗ ತಲುಪುವಂಥದ್ದು. ಗೌಡೀ ರೀತಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾದ, ಉದ್ದ ಸಮಾಸಗಳ ಶೈಲಿ.
The Vaidarbhi manner is the style of the Vidarbha country: few compounds, soft words, and a meaning that reaches quickly. The Gaudi manner is its opposite, built of long compounds.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಸುಲಭವೆಂದು ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಕಷ್ಟದ ಕೆಲಸ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸಿದ್ಧಹಸ್ತರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಈ ಶೈಲಿ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಅದಕ್ಕೇ.
Writing plainly looks easy but is hard work. That is why the verse says this manner rises only for the accomplished.
ವರದಿ, ಪತ್ರ, ಸೂಚನೆ ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ದ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಿದಷ್ಟೂ ಓದುಗನಿಗೆ ಹಿತ. ಇದು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಸಲ್ಲುವ ಪಾಠ.
