ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ರತ್ನಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂರಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಗುಣಗಳದ್ದು.
ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯ ಜೊತೆಗೇ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಸುಭಾಷಿತಕ್ಕೂ ಜಾಗವಿದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಧರ್ಮೋ ಯಶೋ ನಯೋ ದಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಂ ಮನೋಹಾರಿ ಸುಭಾಷಿತಮ್ ।
ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗುಣರತ್ನಾನಾಂ ಸಂಗ್ರಹೀ ನಾವಸೀದತಿ ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
धर्मो यशो नयो दाक्ष्यं मनोहारि सुभाषितम् ।
इत्यादिगुणरत्नानां संग्रही नावसीदति ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (English IAST)
dharmo yaśo nayo dākṣyaṃ manohāri subhāṣitam |
ityādiguṇaratnānāṃ saṃgrahī nāvasīdati ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಧರ್ಮಃ (धर्मः, dharmaḥ) = ಧರ್ಮ, ಸರಿಯಾದ ನಡೆ (righteousness)
- ಯಶಃ (यशः, yaśaḥ) = ಕೀರ್ತಿ (good name)
- ನಯಃ (नयः, nayaḥ) = ನೀತಿ, ವಿವೇಕದ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ (prudent conduct)
- ದಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಮ್ (दाक्ष्यम्, dākṣyam) = ದಕ್ಷತೆ, ಕೌಶಲ (skill)
- ಮನೋಹಾರಿ (मनोहारि, manohāri) = ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವ (charming)
- ಸುಭಾಷಿತಮ್ (सुभाषितम्, subhāṣitam) = ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (the fine saying)
- ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ (इत्यादि, ityādi) = ಇವೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ (these and the like)
- ಗುಣರತ್ನಾನಾಮ್ (गुणरत्नानाम्, guṇaratnānām) = ಗುಣಗಳೆಂಬ ರತ್ನಗಳ (of the gems that virtues are)
- ಸಂಗ್ರಹೀ (संग्रही, saṃgrahī) = ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವವನು (one who gathers)
- ನ ಅವಸೀದತಿ (न अवसीदति, na avasīdati) = ಕುಸಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಳಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (does not sink)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಧರ್ಮ, ಕೀರ್ತಿ, ನೀತಿ, ದಕ್ಷತೆ, ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಸುಭಾಷಿತ, ಇವೇ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಗುಣರತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವವನು ಎಂದೂ ಕುಸಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Righteousness, a good name, prudence, skill and the charming fine saying: one who gathers these and similar gems of virtue never sinks.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಅವಸೀದತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಭಾಷಿತರತ್ನಭಾಂಡಾಗಾರದ ಅಡಿಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ನಶ್ಯತಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕುಸಿದು ಮುಳುಗುವುದು ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರವೂ ಈ ಪದದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
The footnote in the Subhashitaratnabhandagara glosses avasidati as nashyati, perishes. The word also carries the picture of sinking down.
ನಯ ಎಂದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ವಿನಯವಲ್ಲ. ಸಂದರ್ಭ ನೋಡಿ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ವಿವೇಕ, ರಾಜನೀತಿಯ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಅದಕ್ಕಿದೆ.
Naya is not merely modesty. It is the good sense to act rightly in a situation, and it also means statecraft.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಹಣ ಮತ್ತು ಹುದ್ದೆ ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಕೈಬಿಡಬಹುದು. ಕಲಿತ ಕೌಶಲ, ಗಳಿಸಿದ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ ಹೊಸ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ.
Money and position may leave one some day. Skills learnt, trust earned and good conduct come along even to a new town.
