ಇದೊಂದು ನವಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ. ಒಂಬತ್ತು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು, ಪ್ರತಿ ಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು. ಪ್ರತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲೂ ಆ ಗ್ರಹದ ಎರಡು ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಸರಿಸಿ, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಪೀಡೆಯನ್ನು ದೂರ ಮಾಡು ಎಂಬ ಒಂದೇ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
This is a hymn to the nine grahas, nine verses with one for each. Every verse names two or three qualities of that graha and ends with the same request, that it take away affliction.
ಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಕ್ರಮ ಸೂರ್ಯನಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿ ಕೇತು ಮತ್ತು ರಾಹುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಖೀ ಮತ್ತು ತಮಃ ಎಂಬ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಬಳಕೆಯ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ವ್ಯಾಸರ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ನವಗ್ರಹ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ ಈ ತಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಪುಟವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಗ್ರಹಾಣಾಮಾದಿರಾದಿತ್ಯೋ ಲೋಕರಕ್ಷಣಕಾರಕಃ ।
ವಿಷಮಸ್ಥಾನಸಂಭೂತಾಂ ಪೀಡಾಂ ಹರತು ಮೇ ರವಿಃ ॥ 1 ॥
ರೋಹಿಣೀಶಃ ಸುಧಾಮೂರ್ತಿಃ ಸುಧಾಗಾತ್ರಃ ಸುಧಾಶನಃ ।

ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಅರ್ಥ
- 1 ಗ್ರಹಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲಿಗನಾದ ಆದಿತ್ಯನು ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವವನು. ವಿಷಮ ಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಪೀಡೆಯನ್ನು ರವಿಯು ನನ್ನಿಂದ ದೂರ ಮಾಡಲಿ. ವಿಷಮ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಎಂಬುದು ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯದ ಪದ, ಒಂದು ಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದ ಆರು, ಎಂಟು ಮತ್ತು ಹನ್ನೆರಡನೆಯ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅದು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Aditya, first among the grahas, is the protector of the worlds. May Ravi take from me the affliction that arises from an adverse house. ‘Adverse house’ is an astrological term for the difficult houses, the sixth, eighth and twelfth counted from a given position. - 2 ರೋಹಿಣಿಯ ಒಡೆಯನು, ಅಮೃತವೇ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದವನು, ಅಮೃತವೇ ಮೈಯಾದವನು, ಅಮೃತವನ್ನೇ ಉಣ್ಣುವವನು. ವಿಷಮ ಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಪೀಡೆಯನ್ನು ವಿಧು, ಅಂದರೆ ಚಂದ್ರನು, ನನ್ನಿಂದ ದೂರ ಮಾಡಲಿ.

ಈ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this hymn
ಈ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕರ್ತೃವಿನ ಹೆಸರಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವ ಪುರಾಣ ಅಥವಾ ಗ್ರಂಥದಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು ಎಂಬ ಕುರಿತೂ ಮೂಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಗ್ರಹಶಾಂತಿಯ ಪೂಜಾಸಂಗ್ರಹಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಪ್ರಚಲಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಗಳ ಕಾಲವನ್ನು ಗೊತ್ತು ಮಾಡುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ.
This hymn names no author, and the sources say nothing about which purana or work it comes from. It circulates in ritual collections used for grahashanti rites. Short hymns of this kind are hard to date.
ಒಂಬತ್ತು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು, ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ. ಕ್ರಮ ರವಿ, ಚಂದ್ರ, ಕುಜ, ಬುಧ, ಗುರು, ಭೃಗು, ಶನಿ, ಕೇತು, ರಾಹು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇತು ರಾಹುವಿಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಹಲವು ಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಹು ಮೊದಲು ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಗ್ರಹಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಿದ ಹೆಸರುಗಳೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಬಳಕೆಯವು, ಚಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ವಿಧು, ಶುಕ್ರನಿಗೆ ಭೃಗು, ಕೇತುವಿಗೆ ಶಿಖೀ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಹುವಿಗೆ ತಮಃ.
There are nine verses, all in the anushtubh metre, in the order Ravi, Chandra, Kuja, Budha, Guru, Bhrigu, Shani, Ketu, Rahu. Ketu comes before Rahu here, whereas many lists put Rahu first. The names used are also the less common ones: Vidhu for the Moon, Bhrigu for Shukra, Shikhi for Ketu and Tamas for Rahu.

In the first two verses the last line appears in full, asking for the removal of affliction that arises from an adverse house. From the third verse onward the first half of that line is given over to the qualities of the graha, and the phrase about the adverse house is understood. We have therefore explained the term once, in the meaning of verse 1.
ಗ್ರಹಪೀಡೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಂಪರೆ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಯನ್ನೂ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪಠಣ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಬದಲಿಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಪರಂಪರೆ ಪಠಿಸುವ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲೇ ಈ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಯಾವ ನಿಲುವನ್ನೂ ತಳೆದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ವಾರ ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಕರೆಂಟು ಹೋಗಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಮನೆಯ ದಿನಚರಿ ಏರುಪೇರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾರಣ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಎಲ್ಲೋ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರವೊಂದು ತಂತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದು ಕಾಯುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಹಚ್ಚುವುದು.
When the power goes out again and again for a week in the monsoon, the whole routine of a house is thrown out. The cause is not in our hands, a tree has come down on a line somewhere far off. What is left in those days is waiting, and lighting whatever lamp is at hand.

This hymn names the nine grahas and asks that the trouble they bring should pass. There is some comfort simply in giving a name to a difficulty that lies outside our control. Alongside that, we go on doing the small things that can be done at the time.
