ಇದು ಶಂಕರ ಭಗವತ್ಪಾದರ ಜನ್ಮಸ್ಥಳವಾದ ಕಾಲಟಿಯನ್ನು ನೆನೆದು ಹಾಡಿದ ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಸ್ತುತಿ. ಮೊದಲ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅದ್ವೈತದ ಬೆಳಕಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡನೆಯದು ಕಲಿಯುಗದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವೇದಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ ಅವರ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.
This is a two-verse praise of Shankara Bhagavatpada, sung with Kalati, his birthplace, in mind. The first verse sees him as the light of Advaita. The second tells of his work in re-establishing the dharma of the Veda at the start of the Kali age.
ಎರಡೂ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊನೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ: ಆ ಗುರು ನಮಗೆ ನಿರ್ಮಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಸನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡಲಿ ಎಂದು.
Both verses end with the same request: that the Guru grant us a clear mind and abundant welfare.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಅರ್ಥ
- 1 ಬುದ್ಧ ಮೊದಲಾದವರ ಮತಗಳು ವೇದದ ಹೊರಗಿನವು. ಆ ದುರ್ಮತಗಳ ಆನೆಗಳ ಹಿಂಡಿಗೆ ಅವರು ಭಯಂಕರ ಸಿಂಹ. ಶುದ್ಧ ಅದ್ವೈತವೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತಸಾಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಶರತ್ಕಾಲದ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ಚಂದ್ರ. ಬಂಧನದಲ್ಲಿರುವವರ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಗುರುಗಳು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ ಕಾಲಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಗುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಶಂಕರಾರ್ಯರು ನಮಗೆ ನಿರ್ಮಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಲಿ.
The creeds of the Buddha and others stand outside the Veda. To that herd of wrong views, which are like elephants, he is a mighty lion. To the ocean of pure Advaita he is the full moon of autumn. He shines at Kalati, which great gurus established out of a wish for the good of the bound. At the start of the Kali age the dharma taught by the Shruti was set back by unbelievers. He overcame them all with arguments hard as the thunderbolt, brought them to follow, and set the dharma declared by the Veda firmly in the whole world. May that teacher, Sri Shankara Deshika, grant us abundant welfare.

ಇದೊಂದು ಶೃಂಗೇರಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಶಾರದಾ ಪೀಠದ ಜಾಲತಾಣದ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ. ಕರ್ತೃವಿನ ಹೆಸರು ಅಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾವೂ ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ರಚನೆಯ ಕಾಲವನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಮೂಲವು ಇದನ್ನು ಕಾಲಟಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ್ದು ಎಂದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಸ್ತವ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಸಾಲು, ಮತ್ತು ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ಶಾರ್ದೂಲವಿಕ್ರೀಡಿತ.

Our Kannada text was converted from Devanagari, so a little slip of spelling may remain in places. In verse 2 we take the word ashravan to mean those who follow. This reading may be open to some doubt.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಹೊಸ ಪಾಠ ಆರಂಭಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು ಹಲಗೆಯನ್ನು ಒರೆಸಿ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಳೆಯ ಚಾಕ್‌ನ ಗೆರೆಗಳು ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದರೆ ಹೊಸದು ಓದಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
A teacher wipes the blackboard clean before beginning a new lesson. If the old chalk lines remain, the new writing is hard to read.
ಎರಡೂ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಕೇಳುವುದು ನಿರ್ಮಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು. ನಮ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಳೆಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಹಳೆಯ ಭಯಗಳ ಗೆರೆಗಳಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಒರೆಸಿ ನೋಡುವ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಬೇಡುವುದು ಈ ಸ್ತವದ ಭಾವ.
What both verses ask for is a clear mind. Our decisions carry the lines of old habit and old fear. To ask for a mind that wipes them away and looks afresh is the feeling of this hymn.
