ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ಬಂದ ದಿನ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಮೌನ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾರೋ ಮೊದಲ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದಾಗ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಒಳಗಿನ ಉರಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಂಕಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದು, ಅದು ನಿಂದೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೊರಬರುವ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ದಹ್ಯಮಾನಾಃ ಸುತೀವ್ರೇಣ ನೀಚಾಃ ಪರಯಶೋಗ್ನಿನಾ
ಅಶಕ್ತಾಸ್ತತ್ಪದಂ ಗಂತುಂ ತತೋ ನಿಂದಾಂ ಪ್ರಕುರ್ವತೇ

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ದಹ್ಯಮಾನಾಃ (दह्यमानाः, dahyamānāḥ) = ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವವರು (those who are burning)
- ಸುತೀವ್ರೇಣ (सुतीव्रेण, sutīvreṇa) = ಅತಿ ತೀವ್ರವಾದ (with a very fierce)
- ನೀಚಾಃ (नीचाः, nīcāḥ) = ನೀಚರು (the base)
- ಪರಯಶೋಗ್ನಿನಾ (परयशोग्निना, parayaśogninā) = ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಯಶಸ್ಸೆಂಬ ಅಗ್ನಿಯಿಂದ (by the fire of another’s fame)
- ಅಶಕ್ತಾಸ್ತತ್ಪದಂ (अशक्तास्तत्पदं, aśaktāstatpadaṃ) = ಆ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದವರು (unable to reach that station)
- ಗಂತುಂ (गन्तुं, gantuṃ) = ಹೋಗಲು (to go)
- ತತೋ (ततो, tato) = ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ (therefore)
- ನಿಂದಾಂ (निन्दां, nindāṃ) = ನಿಂದೆಯನ್ನು (blame)
- ಪ್ರಕುರ್ವತೇ (प्रकुर्वते, prakurvate) = ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ (they make)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಯಶಸ್ಸೆಂಬ ಅತಿ ತೀವ್ರ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉರಿಯುವ ನೀಚರು ಆ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಲಾರರು. ಅದಕ್ಕೇ ಅವರು ನಿಂದೆಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Base people, burning in the fierce fire of another’s fame, cannot reach that station. And so they turn to blame.

ಯಶಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಮ್ಮುಖ ಚಿತ್ರ. ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳಕು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ನೋಡುವವನ ಒಳಗೆ ಅದು ಉರಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Fame is likened to a fire, which turns the usual picture round. Fame ordinarily gives light, but in the onlooker, the poet says, it kindles a burn.
ತತ್ಪದ ಎಂದರೆ ಆ ಸ್ಥಾನ. ಮೇಲೇರಲು ಬಾರದವನು ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಕೆಳಗೆಳೆಯಲು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬ ಮನಃಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.
Tatpada means that station. The verse puts plainly a simple psychology: the one who cannot climb tries to pull the other down.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬೇಡದ ಟೀಕೆ ಕೇಳಿದರೆ, ಆ ಟೀಕೆಯ ಹಿಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಉರಿ ಇರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಯೋಚಿಸಬಹುದು.
When we hear needless criticism of a colleague, we may pause and think that a burn could lie behind it.
ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೂ ಒಮ್ಮೊಮ್ಮೆ ಈ ಉರಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ನಿಂದೆಯಾಗಿಸದೆ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದ ಹುರುಪಾಗಿ ಬದಲಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯ.
The same burn rises in us at times. It is possible to turn it into a push to practise instead of letting it become blame.
