ಗುರುವಿನ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಸಾರುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುಗೀತೆಯದ್ದೂ ಒಂದು, ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ವಿಷ್ಣು, ಶಿವ ಮೂವರ ಸ್ವರೂಪವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು.
ಗುರುವಿಗಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದುದು ಇನ್ನೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಗುರುರೇವ ಜಗತ್ಸರ್ವಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಿಷ್ಣುಶಿವಾತ್ಮಕಂ ।
ಗುರೋಃ ಪರತರಂ ನಾಸ್ತಿ ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ಸಂಪೂಜಯೇದ್ಗುರುಂ ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
गुरुरेव जगत्सर्वं ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवात्मकं ।
गुरोः परतरं नास्ति तस्मात्सम्पूजयेद्गुरुं ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)
gurureva jagatsarvaṃ brahmaviṣṇuśivātmakaṃ |
guroḥ parataraṃ nāsti tasmātsampūjayedguruṃ ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಗುರುಃ ಏವ ಜಗತ್ ಸರ್ವಂ (गुरुः एव जगत् सर्वं, guruḥ eva jagat sarvaṃ) = ಗುರುವೇ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತೆಲ್ಲ (the guru alone is this entire world)
- ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಿಷ್ಣುಶಿವಾತ್ಮಕಂ (ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवात्मकं, brahmaviṣṇuśivātmakaṃ) = ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ವಿಷ್ಣು, ಶಿವ ಈ ಮೂವರ ಸ್ವರೂಪ (of the nature of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva)
- ಗುರೋಃ ಪರತರಂ ನಾಸ್ತಿ (गुरोः परतरं नास्ति, guroḥ parataraṃ nāsti) = ಗುರುವಿಗಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದುದು ಬೇರೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ (there is nothing higher than the guru)
- ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಸಂಪೂಜಯೇತ್ ಗುರುಂ (तस्मात् सम्पूजयेत् गुरुं, tasmāt sampūjayet guruṃ) = ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಬೇಕು (therefore one should worship the guru well)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಗುರುವೇ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತೆಲ್ಲ, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ವಿಷ್ಣು ಶಿವ ಈ ಮೂವರ ಸ್ವರೂಪ. ಗುರುವಿಗಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದುದು ಬೇರೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಬೇಕು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The guru alone is this entire world, of the very nature of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. There is nothing higher than the guru, therefore one should worship the guru well.

This verse belongs to the Guru Gita, a text in the form of a dialogue between Shiva and Parvati that explains the greatness of the guru across many verses.
ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಮೂರು ಮುಖ್ಯ ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಸ್ವರೂಪ ಎಂದು ಕಾಣುವುದು, ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ, ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಲಯ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರು ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನೂ ಗುರು ತನ್ನ ಶಿಷ್ಯನ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Seeing the guru as the form of the three principal deities suggests that the guru performs all three functions, creation, sustenance and transformation, in a disciple’s life.
