ಊಟ ಬಡಿಸುವಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಉಣ್ಣುವಾಗ ಹೇಳುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಕೊಡುವವನೂ ಹರಿ, ಉಣ್ಣುವವನೂ ಹರಿ, ಅನ್ನವೂ ಹರಿ ಎಂದು ಇಡೀ ಊಟವನ್ನೇ ದೇವರ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಾಗಿ ಇದು ನೋಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಮಾಧ್ವ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಠಗಳ ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಭೋಜನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹರಿರ್ದಾತಾ ಹರಿರ್ಭೋಕ್ತಾ ಹರಿರನ್ನಂ ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಃ ।
ಹರಿಃ ಸರ್ವಶರೀರಸ್ಥೋ ಭುಂಕ್ತೇ ಭೋಜಯತೇ ಹರಿಃ ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
हरिर्दाता हरिर्भोक्ता हरिरन्नं प्रजापतिः ।
हरिः सर्वशरीरस्थो भुङ्क्ते भोजयते हरिः ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಹರಿಃ ದಾತಾ (हरिः दाता, hariḥ dātā) = ಕೊಡುವವನು ಹರಿ (Hari is the giver)
- ಹರಿಃ ಭೋಕ್ತಾ (हरिः भोक्ता, hariḥ bhoktā) = ಉಣ್ಣುವವನು ಹರಿ (Hari is the eater)
- ಹರಿಃ ಅನ್ನಮ್ (हरिः अन्नम्, hariḥ annam) = ಅನ್ನವೂ ಹರಿ (Hari is the food)
- ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಃ (प्रजापतिः, prajāpatiḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಒಡೆಯ (lord of all creatures)
- ಹರಿಃ ಸರ್ವಶರೀರಸ್ಥಃ (हरिः सर्वशरीरस्थः, hariḥ sarvaśarīrasthaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಹಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ಹರಿ (Hari who dwells in every body)
- ಭುಂಕ್ತೇ (भुङ्क्ते, bhuṅkte) = ಉಣ್ಣುತ್ತಾನೆ (eats)
- ಭೋಜಯತೇ ಹರಿಃ (भोजयते हरिः, bhojayate hariḥ) = ಉಣಿಸುವವನೂ ಹರಿಯೇ (and Hari is the one who feeds)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕೊಡುವವನು ಹರಿ, ಉಣ್ಣುವವನು ಹರಿ, ಅನ್ನವೂ ಹರಿ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಒಡೆಯನೂ ಅವನೇ. ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಹಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ಹರಿಯೇ ಉಣ್ಣುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಹರಿಯೇ ಉಣಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Hari is the giver, Hari is the eater, Hari is the food and the lord of all creatures. Hari, dwelling in every body, is the one who eats and the one who feeds.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಕೆಲವು ಆವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲು ಹರಿರ್ವಿಪ್ರಶರೀರಸ್ಥೋ ಎಂದಿದೆ, ಇದನ್ನು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ಭೋಜನದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಹಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಹರಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವ ಸರ್ವಶರೀರಸ್ಥೋ ಪಾಠವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಅದು ಮನೆಯ ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.
In some versions the second line reads harir viprasharirastho, which is said at meals offered to brahmanas. We give the reading sarvasharirastho, which sees Hari in every body and suits the family meal.
ಇದು ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆಯ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾರ್ಪಣಂ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಆಶಯವನ್ನೇ ಸರಳ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ. ಇದರ ಮೂಲ ಗ್ರಂಥವನ್ನು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಬಡಿಸುವವರೂ ಉಣ್ಣುವವರೂ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಎಂದು ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ಬಡಿಸುವಾಗ ತಾರತಮ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಜಾಗವೇ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದ ಅತಿಥಿಗೂ, ಕೆಲಸದವರಿಗೂ, ಮನೆಯ ಮಗುವಿಗೂ ಒಂದೇ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಬಡಿಸುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರವನ್ನು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತದೆ.
If we see the one who serves and the one who eats as the same, there is no room left for discrimination while serving. This verse nurtures the habit of serving a guest, a household helper and the child of the house with the same love.
