The wicked man is by his very nature full of illusion and stirred by desire, hatred and pride. Like worldly existence he bewilders even the great.
About this subhashita
Raga, dvesha and mada are three feelings that muddy the mind. It is customary to describe worldly life itself in these words, and the poet has clothed the wicked man in them.
Mayamaya means one whose very form is illusion. The word mohaya is the point of the comparison. Worldly life and the wicked man both draw in whoever comes near.

For life today
Falling for sweet words is not avoided even by the learned. When someone’s speech sounds very agreeable, we can wait a while and see whether his conduct matches before we decide.
Scolding worldly life is not the main aim of the verse. It is only a familiar comparison to show how strong the pull of the wicked man is.
