About this subhashita
The first three lines hold six pairs. In each one the trouble and its counter come together. The list keeps one rhythm until the reader settles into it, and the last half line breaks that habit.
The word aushadha, remedy, is used twice side by side. Once to say there is one, and in the next breath to say there is none. The sting is in that repetition.
Mantras against poison are a record of the therapeutics of the time. This same verse is also found in Bhartrihari’s Niti Shataka.

Physicians know the last line of this verse. There is a medicine for the disease. For someone who has decided beforehand that he wants no medicine, there is nothing left to give.
The word murkha does not point at the person who does not know. It points at the person who will not know. The first only needs telling. If we treat the two as one, we would have to give up teaching altogether.
