By a little he rises, by a little he sinks. Ah, how alike are the ways of the end of a scale beam and of the wicked man.
About this subhashita
Tulakoti means the end of the beam or the pan of a balance. It swings at a pinch of weight, and the poet likens that to the wicked man’s fickle nature.
The reading here follows the printed book. One mark in the word vrittistulakoteh is faint, and we have read it as given.

For life today
We should watch the mind that swells at a little praise and shrinks at a little blame. Students and doctors alike meet this on the day of an assessment.
The comparison also hints that one should not hand a weighty task to someone with no steadiness.
