ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಟೀಕೆ ತಪ್ಪಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಟೀಕೆಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ತಲೆಕೆಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದೇ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಶಿವನ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸದ್ಭಿರ್ಭವ್ಯೇ ಹಿತೇ ಕಾವ್ಯೇ ವೃಥಾ ದುರ್ಜನಗರ್ಜನಮ್ ।
ಚಣ್ಡೀಶಾಙ್ಗೀಕೃತೇ ಚನ್ದ್ರೇಽರುನ್ತುದಃ ಕಿಂ ವಿಧುನ್ತುದಃ ॥

सद्भिर्भव्ये हिते काव्ये वृथा दुर्जनगर्जनम् ।
चण्डीशाङ्गीकृते चन्द्रेऽरुन्तुदः किं विधुन्तुदः ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (English IAST)
sadbhirbhavye hite kāvye vṛthā durjanagarjanam |
caṇḍīśāṅgīkṛte candre’runtudaḥ kiṃ vidhuntudaḥ ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಸದ್ಭಿಃ (सद्भिः, sadbhiḥ) = ಸಜ್ಜನರಿಂದ (by the good)
- ಭವ್ಯೇ (भव्ये, bhavye) = ಸೊಗಸಾದ (fine)
- ಹಿತೇ (हिते, hite) = ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ (beneficial)
- ಕಾವ್ಯೇ (काव्ये, kāvye) = ಕಾವ್ಯದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ (in the matter of a poem)
- ವೃಥಾ (वृथा, vṛthā) = ವ್ಯರ್ಥ (in vain)
- ದುರ್ಜನಗರ್ಜನಮ್ (दुर्जनगर्जनम्, durjanagarjanam) = ದುರ್ಜನರ ಗರ್ಜನೆ (the roaring of the wicked)
- ಚಣ್ಡೀಶಾಙ್ಗೀಕೃತೇ (चण्डीशाङ्गीकृते, caṇḍīśāṅgīkṛte) = ಚಂಡೀಶನಿಂದ ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ (taken up by Shiva, the lord of Chandi)
- ಚನ್ದ್ರೇ (चन्द्रे, candre) = ಚಂದ್ರನ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ (in the case of the moon)
- ಅರುನ್ತುದಃ (अरुन्तुदः, aruntudaḥ) = ಮರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಚುಚ್ಚುವವನು (the one who pierces to the quick)
- ಕಿಮ್ ವಿಧುನ್ತುದಃ (किम् विधुन्तुदः, kim vidhuntudaḥ) = ರಾಹು ಏನು ಮಾಡಿಯಾನು (what can Rahu do)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸಜ್ಜನರಿಗೆ ಸೊಗಸಾಗಿಯೂ ಹಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಇರುವ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ದುರ್ಜನರ ಗರ್ಜನೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ. ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಶಿವನೇ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಏರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಮೇಲೆ ಮರ್ಮ ಚುಚ್ಚುವ ರಾಹು ಅವನನ್ನು ಏನು ಮಾಡಿಯಾನು?
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
When a poem is fine and does good to the good, the roaring of the wicked is in vain. Once Shiva has taken the moon upon his head, what can wounding Rahu do to it?

ಪುರಾಣದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ರಾಹು ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ನುಂಗಿ ಗ್ರಹಣ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ವಿಧುಂತುದ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರೇ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಚುಚ್ಚುವವನು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.
In the puranas Rahu swallows the moon and causes the eclipse. The very name vidhuntuda means the one who torments the moon.
ಅರುಂತುದ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಯ ಅಡಿಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಮರ್ಮಸ್ಪೃಶ್ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಅಂದರೆ ನೋಯುವ ಜಾಗವನ್ನೇ ಮುಟ್ಟುವವನು.
The printed edition glosses aruntuda as marmasprish, one who touches exactly where it hurts.
ಶಿವನ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ಗ್ರಹಣವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಕಾವ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯೇ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಆ ಆಶ್ರಯ.
The picture of the moon safe from eclipse under Shiva’s protection recurs in Sanskrit poetry. For a work, the approval of good people is that protection.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಟೀಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮೊದಲೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದು ಬಂದಾಗ ಕುಗ್ಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
If one accepts in advance that good work attracts criticism, then it does not knock one down when it comes.
ಆದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಟೀಕೆಯೂ ಗರ್ಜನೆ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಟೀಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಬೇಕು, ಹಾಳುಮಾಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದ ಗಲಾಟೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡಬೇಕು. ಆ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸುವುದೇ ಕೌಶಲ.
But not all criticism is mere roaring. Criticism that helps you correct something deserves a hearing, while noise meant to damage can be set aside. Telling the two apart is the real skill.
