O mind, worship Sri Shankaracharya, the teacher of the Advaita vidya, who lights up the true Vedic path.
He is the one abode of good qualities such as dispassion and peace, and he found joy in meeting Sri Vyasa. He is the full moon to the milk ocean of Vedanta, and his feet are served by good sages who are free from desire.
He is the helmsman on the fearful ocean of worldly existence and has gained the essence of all the scriptures. His mind roams free after giving up every longing, and he is a sun to the lotus heart of Sri Bharati Tirtha.
About this hymn
This is a song from the Shankara Bhagavatpada group on the website of the Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetham. The source names no author, so we name none. We give no date either.
The source gives the raga as Bageshri and the tala as Adi. The pallavi is two lines and each charana has two long lines. It is the usual way of such songs to return to the pallavi after each charana.
The last line calls him a sun to the lotus heart of Bharati Tirtha. We say only that the name appears there. We took the word veetasha to mean those without desire. We give the text as we received it.

When packing a bag for a long journey, we feel like putting in everything. Only while walking with the heavy bag do we learn how much we really needed.
This song pictures a teacher who roams lightly after giving up every longing. To us that image of setting out light is a gentle call to look once at our own daily routine.
