Context and commentary on verse 11.1
At the end of the tenth chapter Krishna had said, ‘I stand supporting this whole world with a single fraction of myself.’ According to Sridhara Swami that word is the doorway to this chapter: wishing to see such a universal form, Arjuna first recalls the earlier teaching with gratitude. For Shankara ‘adhyatma’ is the discrimination between the Self and the not-Self, and the ‘delusion’ that has gone is the mind that lacked that discrimination.
Ramanuja marks the extent of that teaching precisely: the words about the Self from ‘na tv evaham jatu nasam’ (2.12) in the second chapter to ‘tasmad yogi bhavarjuna’ (6.46) in the sixth. The illusion that the body is oneself is the delusion that has gone. Madhva states the purpose of the chapter in one line: it shows what his form is like, so that meditation on what has been heard becomes possible.

When we hear a good word, gratitude to the one who spoke it comes first, and the next question after. Arjuna’s order here is a model for every learner.
Arjuna, who says ‘my delusion is gone’, trembles with fear later in this very chapter. Understanding is not completed in a single day. It is tested again and again.
