Context and commentary on verse 15.19
Knowledge and devotion in one sentence. According to Shankara ‘sarvavit’ is the all-knowing one who knows everything as the Self, and ‘sarvabhavena’ means with the sense that all is the Self. Having taught in this chapter the knowledge of the Lord’s truth, whose fruit is liberation, the next verse praises it, he says. Sridhara Swami reads the order differently: he worships me alone with his whole being, and from that he becomes all-knowing.
Ramanuja makes precise the ‘undeluded’ knowledge: knowing him as distinct from the perishable and imperishable persons by his imperishable nature and by pervading, sustaining and ruling. ‘Sarvavit’ means one who knows all that must be known to reach him, and ‘sarvabhavena’ means with every mode of worshipping him. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

For life today
‘Sarvabhavena’, with one’s whole being. Whatever we do, work, love or prayer, doing it fully and not half-heartedly changes its very taste.
Sridhara Swami’s order tells a lovely truth: work done with love is what opens the way to deeper understanding.
