ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಪಿತಾಹಮಸ್ಯ ಜಗತೋ ಮಾತಾ ಧಾತಾ ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ।
ವೇದ್ಯಂ ಪವಿತ್ರಮೋಂಕಾರ ಋಕ್ಸಾಮ ಯಜುರೇವ ಚ ॥ 17 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
पिताहमस्य जगतो माता धाता पितामहः।
वेद्यं पवित्रमोङ्कार ऋक्साम यजुरेव च ॥ 17 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
pitāhamasya jagato mātā dhātā pitāmahaḥ|
vedyaṃ pavitramoṅkāra ṛksāma yajureva ca || 17 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅಹಮ್ ಅಸ್ಯ ಜಗತಃ ಪಿತಾ (अहम् अस्य जगतः पिता, aham asya jagataḥ pitā) = ನಾನೇ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ತಂದೆ (I am the father of this world)
- ಮಾತಾ ಧಾತಾ ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ (माता धाता पितामहः, mātā dhātā pitāmahaḥ) = ತಾಯಿ, ಧಾತ, ಅಜ್ಜ (the mother, the sustainer, the grandfather)
- ವೇದ್ಯಂ ಪವಿತ್ರಮ್ ಓಂಕಾರಃ (वेद्यं पवित्रम् ओङ्कारः, vedyaṃ pavitram oṅkāraḥ) = ತಿಳಿಯಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು, ಪವಿತ್ರಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು, ಓಂಕಾರ (what is to be known, the purifier, the syllable Om)
- ಋಕ್ ಸಾಮ ಯಜುಃ ಏವ ಚ (ऋक् साम यजुः एव च, ṛk sāma yajuḥ eva ca) = ಋಕ್, ಸಾಮ, ಯಜುಸ್ಸು ಕೂಡ (and the Rik, Sama and Yajus as well)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ನಾನೇ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ತಂದೆ, ತಾಯಿ, ಧಾತ, ಅಜ್ಜ. ತಿಳಿಯಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು, ಪವಿತ್ರಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು, ಓಂಕಾರ, ಋಕ್, ಸಾಮ, ಯಜುಸ್ಸು ಕೂಡ ನಾನೇ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
I am the father of this world, its mother, sustainer and grandfather. I am what is to be known, the purifier, the syllable Om, and the Rik, Sama and Yajus as well.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 9.17ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 9.17
ತಂದೆ, ತಾಯಿ, ಅಜ್ಜ, ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧದ ಪದಗಳು ಈಶ್ವರನನ್ನು ಮನೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೆ ತರುತ್ತವೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಧಾತ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕರ್ಮಫಲವನ್ನು ವಿಧಿಸಿ ಕೊಡುವವನು, ‘ಪಿತಾಮಹ’ ತಂದೆಯ ತಂದೆ.
Father, mother, grandfather: these words of kinship bring the Lord close to the home. For Shankara ‘dhata’ is the one who allots the fruits of karma to beings, and ‘pitamaha’ is the father’s father.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಧಾತ’ ತಾಯಿ ತಂದೆಯರಲ್ಲದೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ನೆರವಾಗುವ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬ ಚೇತನ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆಯೋ ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ಅವುಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರುವವನು ಅವನೇ. ‘ಓಂಕಾರ’ ಅವರಿಗೆ ವೇದಗಳ ಬೀಜ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
For Ramanuja ‘dhata’ is another conscious being, besides mother and father, who helps a birth come about. Wherever in the world these relationships appear, he is the one behind them. ‘Omkara’ for him is the seed of the Vedas. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡವರಿಗೆ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಒಂದು ಆಸರೆಯಾಗಬಲ್ಲದು. ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೂಲದಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆ ಆ ನೋವಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ನೆಲೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.
For those who have lost their parents, this verse can be a support. The feeling that the love which raised us came from a greater source gives a footing even in that grief.
ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ತಂದೆ, ತಾಯಿ, ಅಜ್ಜನ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬ. ಮೊಮ್ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಅಜ್ಜಅಜ್ಜಿಯರ ದುಡಿಮೆ ಅನೇಕ ಮನೆಗಳ ಕಾಣದ ಬೆನ್ನೆಲುಬು.
Seen from the other side, everyone who carries the role of father, mother or grandparent is a small reflection of that greater role. The labour of grandparents who look after their grandchildren is the unseen backbone of many homes.
