A snake, though reared on milk, is not tamed. A lion kills by force even those who keep it. In the same way the wicked man, helped by others, does them harm. So the wise should not place even a particle of trust in him.
About this subhashita
There are two comparisons. The snake stands for the nature of poison, the lion for the nature of strength. Neither looks to the good of the one who reared it.
Vishvasalesha means a scrap of trust. The verse does not even allow a little: it says not even that.

For life today
Many have felt the letdown that follows helping someone. After such an experience it is prudent to think about the size and manner of any help given next time.
But deciding who is truly wicked is a hard call. One lapse of memory does not make a snake. The warning is only about those whose nature is so.
