About this subhashita
Marma means the most tender spot of body or mind. The word also occurs in old medical texts. Here it is used for the stab of speech.
Mrityor api mrityavah is hyperbole. Death takes everyone, but cruelty torments by choice. The poet draws that difference this way.

For life today
A teasing jibe a teacher makes in the name of fun can stay in a junior’s mind for years. The listener, not the speaker, decides where the line between humour and a stab lies.
We too may have hurt someone in a day. The verse aims at those who have made it their business, yet it is a caution to us as well.
