ಒಂದೇ ಸಾಲಿನ ವಿಶೇಷಣಗಳು ಎರಡು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ವಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿದಾಗ ಶ್ಲೇಷೆ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಎರಡು ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ಕಾವ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವರ್ಗ. ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಯ ಅಡಿಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿಗಳೇ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ.
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯದಸೇವನೀಯಮಸತಾಮಮೃತಪ್ರಾಯಂ ಸುವರ್ಣವಿನ್ಯಾಸಮ್ ।
ಸುರಸಾರ್ಥಮಯಂ ಕಾವ್ಯಂ ತ್ರಿವಿಷ್ಟಪಂ ವಾ ಸಮಂ ವಿದ್ಮಃ ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
यदसेवनीयमसताममृतप्रायं सुवर्णविन्यासम् ।
सुरसार्थमयं काव्यं त्रिविष्टपं वा समं विद्मः ॥
ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)
yadasevanīyamasatāmamṛtaprāyaṃ suvarṇavinyāsam |
surasārthamayaṃ kāvyaṃ triviṣṭapaṃ vā samaṃ vidmaḥ ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯತ್ ಅಸೇವನೀಯಮ್ ಅಸತಾಮ್ (यत् असेवनीयम् असताम्, yat asevanīyam asatām) = ಕೆಟ್ಟವರಿಗೆ ಸೇವಿಸಲು ಸಿಗದ್ದು (what the wicked cannot partake of)
- ಅಮೃತಪ್ರಾಯಮ್ (अमृतप्रायम्, amṛtaprāyam) = ಅಮೃತದಂತಹದ್ದು, ಅಮೃತ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದು (like nectar, and full of nectar)
- ಸುವರ್ಣವಿನ್ಯಾಸಮ್ (सुवर्णविन्यासम्, suvarṇavinyāsam) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳ ಜೋಡಣೆಯುಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ಚಿನ್ನದಿಂದ ಆದದ್ದು (set with fine syllables, and made of gold)
- ಸುರಸಾರ್ಥಮಯಮ್ (सुरसार्थमयम्, surasārthamayam) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ರಸ ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಥ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದು, ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಸಮೂಹ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದು (full of fine flavour and meaning, and full of hosts of gods)
- ಕಾವ್ಯಮ್ (काव्यम्, kāvyam) = ಕಾವ್ಯ (poetry)
- ತ್ರಿವಿಷ್ಟಪಮ್ ವಾ (त्रिविष्टपम् वा, triviṣṭapam vā) = ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ವರ್ಗ (or heaven)
- ಸಮಮ್ ವಿದ್ಮಃ (समम् विद्मः, samam vidmaḥ) = ಸಮ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ (we reckon equal)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕೆಟ್ಟವರಿಗೆ ಸಿಗದ್ದು, ಅಮೃತದಂತಹದ್ದು, ಚಿನ್ನದಂತಹ ಜೋಡಣೆಯುಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ರಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದು. ಇಂಥ ಕಾವ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನೂ ನಾವು ಸಮ ಎಂದೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
What the wicked cannot partake of, what is like nectar, what is set with gold, what is full of fine flavour: poetry and heaven we reckon equal.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಯ ಅಡಿಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದಕ್ಕೂ ಎರಡು ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಸುವರ್ಣವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಶೋಭನಾಕ್ಷರಗಳ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ, ಪಕ್ಷೇ ಸುವರ್ಣಮಯ ಎಂದು ಬರೆದಿದೆ. ಪಕ್ಷೇ ಎಂದರೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ.
The footnotes in the printed edition give two senses for each word. For suvarna-vinyasa they read an arrangement of fine syllables, and on the other side made of gold. Pakshe means on the other side.
ತ್ರಿವಿಷ್ಟಪ ಎಂಬುದು ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ಒಂದು ಹೆಸರು. ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಲಿನದು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
Trivishtapa is one of the names of heaven, carrying the sense of the highest of the three worlds.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಕೆಟ್ಟವರು ಸವಿಯಲಾರರು ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಕಠಿಣವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಇದರ ಅರ್ಥ ಸರಳ. ಮನಸ್ಸು ಸಿದ್ಧವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟರೂ ರುಚಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
The line that the wicked cannot taste what is good may sound harsh, but its sense is simple. When the mind is not ready, nothing set before it will taste of anything.
ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಇಂದು ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ತೆರೆಯುವುದು ಸುಲಭ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸಮ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮದೇ.
It is easier to open a good book today than to wait for heaven. Once the verse has called them equal, the choice is ours.
