ಕಥಮಿಹ ಮನುಷ್ಯಜನ್ಮಾ: ಅಮೃತ ಕುಡಿಯದವನು ದೇವಸಭೆಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಹೋದಾನು

ಅಮೃತ ಕುಡಿದವರೇ ದೇವತೆಗಳು, ದೇವಸಭೆ ಅವರದು ಎಂಬುದು ಪುರಾಣಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರ.

ವಿಬುಧ ಎಂಬ ಒಂದೇ ಪದದ ಎರಡು ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿ, ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಪದ್ಯ ಆ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ಸಭೆಗೆ ತಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕಥಮಿಹ ಮನುಷ್ಯಜನ್ಮಾ ಸಂಪ್ರವಿಶತಿ ಸದಸಿ ವಿಬುಧಗಮಿತಾಯಾಮ್ ।
ಯೇನ ನ ಸುಭಾಷಿತಾಮೃತಮಾಹ್ಲಾದಿ ನಿಪೀತಮಾತೃಪ್ತೇಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

कथमिह मनुष्यजन्मा संप्रविशति सदसि विबुधगमितायाम् ।
येन न सुभाषितामृतमाह्लादि निपीतमातृप्तेः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (English IAST)

kathamiha manuṣyajanmā saṃpraviśati sadasi vibudhagamitāyām |
yena na subhāṣitāmṛtamāhlādi nipītamātṛpteḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಕಥಮ್ (कथम्, katham) = ಹೇಗೆ (how)
ಇಹ (इह, iha) = ಇಲ್ಲಿ (here)
ಮನುಷ್ಯಜನ್ಮಾ (मनुष्यजन्मा, manuṣyajanmā) = ಮನುಷ್ಯನಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದವನು (one born human)
ಸಂಪ್ರವಿಶತಿ (संप्रविशति, saṃpraviśati) = ಒಳಹೊಗುತ್ತಾನೆ (enters)
ಸದಸಿ (सदसि, sadasi) = ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (into the assembly)
ವಿಬುಧಗಮಿತಾಯಾಮ್ (विबुधगमितायाम्, vibudhagamitāyām) = ವಿಬುಧರು ಸೇರಿರುವ, ಅಂದರೆ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು ಅಥವಾ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ತುಂಬಿರುವ (attended by the wise, or by the gods)
ಯೇನ (येन, yena) = ಯಾರಿಂದ (by whom)
ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲವೋ (not)
ಸುಭಾಷಿತಾಮೃತಮ್ (सुभाषितामृतम्, subhāṣitāmṛtam) = ಸುಭಾಷಿತವೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತ (the nectar of fine sayings)
ಆಹ್ಲಾದಿ (आह्लादि, āhlādi) = ಆನಂದ ಕೊಡುವ (delightful)
ನಿಪೀತಮ್ (निपीतम्, nipītam) = ಕುಡಿದಿರುವುದು (has been drunk)
ಆತೃಪ್ತೇಃ (आतृप्तेः, ātṛpteḥ) = ತೃಪ್ತಿಯಾಗುವವರೆಗೆ (to the full)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಆನಂದ ಕೊಡುವ ಸುಭಾಷಿತಾಮೃತವನ್ನು ತೃಪ್ತಿಯಾಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಕುಡಿಯದ ಮನುಷ್ಯ, ವಿಬುಧರು ತುಂಬಿರುವ ಈ ಸಭೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿಯಾನು?

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

How can one born human enter this assembly thronged by the wise, if he has not drunk his fill of the delightful nectar of fine sayings?

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ವಿಬುಧ ಎಂದರೆ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸ, ವಿಬುಧ ಎಂದರೆ ದೇವತೆ ಕೂಡ. ಸುಭಾಷಿತರತ್ನಭಾಂಡಾಗಾರದ ಅಡಿಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ವಿಬುಧಗಮಿತಾಯಾಂ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಪಂಡಿತರಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವತೆಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

Vibudha means a learned man, and vibudha also means a god. The footnote in the Subhashitaratnabhandagara gives both senses for vibudhagamitayam: full of scholars, and attended by gods.

ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಅರ್ಥ ಸ್ವಾರಸ್ಯಕರ. ಅಮೃತ ಕುಡಿದವರು ದೇವತೆಗಳು, ಕುಡಿಯದವನು ಮನುಷ್ಯ. ವಿದ್ವತ್ಸಭೆಯ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಅಮೃತ ಸುಭಾಷಿತ.

On the side of the gods the sense is delightful: those who drank nectar are gods, one who did not is merely human. On the side of the learned assembly, that nectar is the fine saying.

ಯಾವುದೇ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೂಲಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವುದು ಗೌರವದ ನಡೆ. ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನಕ್ಕೂ ಇದು ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Before going to a gathering in any field, reading its core texts first is a mark of respect. It applies to a medical conference too.

ಏನನ್ನೂ ಓದದೆ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತರೆ ದೇಹ ಅಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಮನಸ್ಸು ಹೊರಗೇ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

If one sits in an assembly without having read, the body is inside but the mind stays outside.
