ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಾಲು ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಣ್ಣಗಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಅನುಭವಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ಸತ್ತವನನ್ನೂ ಬದುಕಿಸುವ ವಿದ್ಯೆ.

ಕಾವ್ಯವಿದ್ಯಾ ಶ್ರುತಿಗತಾ ಸಾ ಮೃತಸ್ಯಾಪಿ ಜೀವನೀ ॥

शब्दशक्त्यैव कुर्वाणा सर्वदा नवनिर्वृतिम् ।
काव्यविद्या श्रुतिगता सा मृतस्यापि जीवनी ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಶಬ್ದಶಕ್ತ್ಯಾ ಏವ (शब्दशक्त्या एव, śabdaśaktyā eva) = ಶಬ್ದದ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದಲೇ (by the power of the word alone)
ಕುರ್ವಾಣಾ (कुर्वाणा, kurvāṇā) = ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ (producing)
ಸರ್ವದಾ (सर्वदा, sarvadā) = ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ (always)
ನವನಿರ್ವೃತಿಮ್ (नवनिर्वृतिम्, navanirvṛtim) = ಹೊಸದಾದ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯನ್ನು (a delight that is ever new)
ಕಾವ್ಯವಿದ್ಯಾ (काव्यविद्या, kāvyavidyā) = ಕಾವ್ಯವಿದ್ಯೆ (the art of poetry)
ಶ್ರುತಿಗತಾ (श्रुतिगता, śrutigatā) = ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದದ್ದು (once it has entered the ear)

ಮೃತಸ್ಯ ಅಪಿ ಜೀವನೀ (मृतस्य अपि जीवनी, mṛtasya api jīvanī) = ಸತ್ತವನಿಗೂ ಜೀವ ಕೊಡುವಂಥದ್ದು (is a giver of life even to the dead)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಶಬ್ದದ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದಲೇ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಹೊಸದಾದ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಾವ್ಯವಿದ್ಯೆ, ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದರೆ ಸತ್ತವನಿಗೂ ಜೀವ ಕೊಡುವಂಥದ್ದು.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The art of poetry, which by the power of the word alone gives a delight that is always new, once it has entered the ear is a giver of life even to the dead.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ನಿರ್ವೃತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಾಂತಿ, ತೃಪ್ತಿ, ತಣ್ಣಗಾದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ. ನವನಿರ್ವೃತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಲ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗಲೂ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿಯೇ ಸಿಗುವ ತಣ್ಣಗಾಗುವಿಕೆ.

Nirvriti means peace, contentment, a cooled state. Navanirvriti is the cooling that comes afresh every time one hears it.

ಶಬ್ದಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂಬುದು ಕಾವ್ಯಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಪಾರಿಭಾಷಿಕ ಪದ. ಶಬ್ದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂದು ಅದರ ಅರ್ಥ. ಅರ್ಥ ತಿಳಿಯದಿದ್ದರೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಾಲಿನ ನಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಅನುಭವ ಇದರ ಹಿಂದಿದೆ.

Shabdashakti is a technical term in poetics for the power by which a word conveys its meaning. Behind it lies the experience that the sound of a good line touches the mind even when its meaning is not understood.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ನೋವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಡು, ಕವಿತೆ, ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಕೊಡುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಬಹಳ ಹಳೆಯ ಅನುಭವ. ಇಂದಿನ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಸಂಗೀತವನ್ನು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಬಳಸುವುದನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತೇವೆ.

That song, poetry and prayer console those in pain is a very old experience. In healthcare today too we see music used alongside treatment.

ಆದರೆ ಇದು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಬದಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಆಳವಾದ ದುಃಖ, ಖಿನ್ನತೆ ಇದ್ದಾಗ ಕವಿತೆಯ ಸಾಂತ್ವನದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವೈದ್ಯರ ನೆರವೂ ಬೇಕು.

But this is not a substitute for treatment. When grief or depression runs deep, the comfort of poetry needs the help of a doctor alongside it.
