ಸುಭಾಷಿತಗಳನ್ನು ಸವಿಯುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದು ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮಾತು ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದಾಗಲೇ ಅದರ ಫಲ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುವ್ಯಾಹೃತಾನಿ ಧೀರಾಣಾಂ ಫಲತಃ ಪರಿಚಿನ್ತ್ಯ ಯಃ ।
ಅಧ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯೇಷು ಚಿರಂ ಯಶಸಿ ತಿಷ್ಠತಿ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

सुव्याहृतानि धीराणां फलतः परिचिन्त्य यः ।
अध्यवस्यति कार्येषु चिरं यशसि तिष्ठति ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸುವ್ಯಾಹೃತಾನಿ (सुव्याहृतानि, suvyāhṛtāni) = ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು (well-spoken words)
ಧೀರಾಣಾಮ್ (धीराणाम्, dhīrāṇām) = ಧೀರರ, ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ (of the wise and steady)
ಫಲತಃ (फलतः, phalataḥ) = ಅವುಗಳ ಫಲದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ (in terms of their results)
ಪರಿಚಿನ್ತ್ಯ (परिचिन्त्य, paricintya) = ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಚಿಂತಿಸಿ (having thought over)
ಯಃ (यः, yaḥ) = ಯಾರು (who)
ಅಧ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ (अध्यवस्यति, adhyavasyati) = ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿ ತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾನೋ (resolves and acts)
ಕಾರ್ಯೇಷು (कार्येषु, kāryeṣu) = ಕೆಲಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (in his undertakings)
ಚಿರಮ್ (चिरम्, ciram) = ಬಹಳ ಕಾಲ (for long)
ಯಶಸಿ (यशसि, yaśasi) = ಕೀರ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (in fame)
ತಿಷ್ಠತಿ (तिष्ठति, tiṣṭhati) = ನೆಲೆಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (abides)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಧೀರರು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಅವುಗಳ ಫಲದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಚಿಂತಿಸಿ, ತನ್ನ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಧಾರದಿಂದ ತೊಡಗುವವನು ಬಹಳ ಕಾಲ ಕೀರ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

He who weighs the well-spoken words of the wise by their results, and then acts with resolve in his undertakings, abides long in good fame.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಇದೇ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಪರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ (5.39.31) ವಿದುರನು ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವ ನೀತಿಯ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಚಿಂತ್ಯ ಬದಲು ಪ್ರವಿಚಿಂತ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಪಾಠವಿದೆ. ಅರ್ಥ ಒಂದೇ.

This verse occurs in the Udyoga Parva of the Mahabharata (5.39.31), in the counsel Vidura gives Dhritarashtra. There it reads pravichintya instead of parichintya, with the same sense.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತರತ್ನಭಾಂಡಾಗಾರದ ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿವೆ. ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿಗೂ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣಕ್ಕೂ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಪಾಠಕ್ಕೂ ಹೊಂದುವ ಅಧ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ ಎಂಬ ರೂಪವನ್ನೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

In the printed Subhashitaratnabhandagara the letters of adhyavasyati are slightly unclear. We give adhyavasyati, the form that fits the metre, the grammar and the Mahabharata text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸುಲಭ. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿ, ಅದರ ಫಲವನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಿ, ಒಂದು ವಾರ ಪಾಲಿಸಿ ನೋಡುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ, ಆದರೆ ಫಲ ಕೊಡುವುದು ಅದೇ.

Reading good words and admiring them is easy. Picking one, thinking through its results and practising it for a week is hard, but that is what bears fruit.

ಅಧ್ಯವಸಾಯ ಎಂದರೆ ನಿರ್ಧಾರದಿಂದ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೊಡಗುವುದು. ಯೋಚನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ನಿಂತುಹೋದರೆ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವೂ ಒಂದು ಅಲಂಕಾರದ ವಸ್ತುವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

Adhyavasaya is setting to work with resolve. If one stops at thinking, even a collection of fine sayings stays a mere ornament.
