ಅನಪೇಕ್ಷಿತಗುರುವಚನಾ: ಗಂಟುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸುವ ಸ್ವಂತ ವಿವೇಚನೆ

ಗುರು ಇರಬೇಕು, ಪಾಠ ಕೇಳಬೇಕು. ಅದು ನಿಜ. ಆದರೆ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಗಂಟನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಬುದ್ಧಿ.

ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಸ್ವಂತ ವಿವೇಚನೆಯನ್ನು ಜಯಘೋಷದ ದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪ್ರಕಟಯತಿ ಪರರಹಸ್ಯಂ ವಿಮರ್ಶಶಕ್ತಿರ್ನಿಜಾ ಜಯತಿ ॥

अनपेक्षितगुरुवचना सर्वान्ग्रन्थीन्विभेदयति सम्यक् ।
प्रकटयति पररहस्यं विमर्शशक्तिर्निजा जयति ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅನಪೇಕ್ಷಿತಗುರುವಚನಾ (अनपेक्षितगुरुवचना, anapekṣitaguruvacanā) = ಗುರುವಿನ ಮಾತಿನ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು (not needing to wait for a teacher’s word)
ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಗ್ರನ್ಥೀನ್ (सर्वान् ग्रन्थीन्, sarvān granthīn) = ಎಲ್ಲ ಗಂಟುಗಳನ್ನು (all the knots)
ವಿಭೇದಯತಿ (विभेदयति, vibhedayati) = ಬಿಡಿಸಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ (cuts through)
ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ (सम्यक्, samyak) = ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ, ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ (thoroughly)
ಪ್ರಕಟಯತಿ (प्रकटयति, prakaṭayati) = ಬಯಲು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ (lays open)
ಪರರಹಸ್ಯಮ್ (पररहस्यम्, pararahasyam) = ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಒಳಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು (another’s secret)
ವಿಮರ್ಶಶಕ್ತಿಃ (विमर्शशक्तिः, vimarśaśaktiḥ) = ವಿಮರ್ಶಾಶಕ್ತಿ, ಆಲೋಚಿಸಿ ತೂಗುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ (the power of reflection and judgement)
ನಿಜಾ (निजा, nijā) = ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ (one’s own)
ಜಯತಿ (जयति, jayati) = ಜಯಿಸಲಿ, ಮೇಲುಗೈ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ (is supreme)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಗುರುವಿನ ಮಾತಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯಬೇಕಾಗಿಲ್ಲ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಗಂಟುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅದು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬಿಡಿಸಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಒಳಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನೂ ಬಯಲು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ವಿಮರ್ಶಾಶಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಜಯವಾಗಲಿ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

It waits for no word from a teacher, it cuts through every knot completely, and it lays open even another’s secret. Hail to one’s own power of judgement.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಗ್ರಂಥಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಗಂಟು. ಗ್ರಂಥ ಎಂದರೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಎರಡೂ ಒಂದೇ ಮೂಲದಿಂದ ಬಂದವು, ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ. ಈ ಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಭಾಗಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಗಂಟುಗಳು ಎರಡೂ ಅಡಗಿವೆ.

Granthi means a knot and grantha means a book, both from the same root, because leaves were tied together. The word hides both the hard passages of a book and the knots of the mind.

ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಟೀಕೆ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಮರ್ಶ ಎಂದರೆ ಮುಟ್ಟುವುದು, ವಿಮರ್ಶ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ನೋಡುವುದು. ಒಂದು ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತಿ ಬಂದು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ.

Vimarsha here does not mean criticism. Marsha is to touch, and vimarsha is to touch from every side. It means the power to walk around a matter and examine it.

ಇದು ಗುರುವನ್ನು ತಳ್ಳಿಹಾಕುವ ಮಾತಲ್ಲ. ಗುರು ಕಲಿಸುವುದೇ ಈ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು. ಆ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಶಿಷ್ಯ ತಾನೇ ನಡೆಯಬಲ್ಲ.

This is not a dismissal of the teacher. What the teacher teaches is exactly this power. Once it has grown, the student can walk alone.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಇಂದು ಉತ್ತರಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೊರತೆ ಇರುವುದು ಉತ್ತರಗಳಿಗಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವ ಉತ್ತರ ಸರಿ ಎಂದು ತೂಗುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಗೆ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದೂ ಅದನ್ನೇ.

Answers are everywhere today. What is scarce is not answers but the power to weigh which answer is sound. That is exactly what the verse praises.

ಓದಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟು ತನ್ನ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿ ನೋಡುವುದು, ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳುವುದು, ಬೇರೆ ಮೂಲದೊಡನೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುವುದು. ವಿಮರ್ಶಾಶಕ್ತಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದು ಇಂಥ ಸಣ್ಣ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳಿಂದ.

Closing the book and saying it in your own words, asking questions, comparing with another source. The power of judgement grows out of small habits like these.
