ಅಞ್ಜಲಿಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಪುಷ್ಪಾಣಿ: ಎರಡೂ ಕೈಗೂ ಒಂದೇ ಪರಿಮಳ

ಹೂವು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುವಾಗ ಎರಡು ಕೈ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಬೊಗಸೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಹೂವು ಕೈ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋದ ಮೇಲೂ ಪರಿಮಳ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಎರಡೂ ಅಂಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಅನುಭವದ ಮೇಲೆ ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಒಂದು ಪದದ ಎರಡು ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅಞ್ಜಲಿಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಪುಷ್ಪಾಣಿ ವಾಸಯನ್ತಿ ಕರದ್ವಯಮ್ ।
ಅಹೋ ಸುಮನಸಾಂ ಪ್ರೀತಿರ್ವಾಮದಕ್ಷಿಣಯೋಃ ಸಮಾ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

अञ्जलिस्थानि पुष्पाणि वासयन्ति करद्वयम् ।
अहो सुमनसां प्रीतिर्वामदक्षिणयोः समा ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

añjalisthāni puṣpāṇi vāsayanti karadvayam |
aho sumanasāṃ prītirvāmadakṣiṇayoḥ samā ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅಞ್ಜಲಿ (अञ्जलि, añjali) = ಬೊಗಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (in the hollow of the joined hands)
ಸ್ಥಾನಿ (स्थानि, sthāni) = ಇರುವ (standing, resting)
ಪುಷ್ಪಾಣಿ (पुष्पाणि, puṣpāṇi) = ಹೂವುಗಳು (the flowers)
ವಾಸಯನ್ತಿ (वासयन्ति, vāsayanti) = ಪರಿಮಳಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ (make fragrant)
ಕರ (कर, kara) = ಕೈಗಳ (of the hands)
ದ್ವಯಮ್ (द्वयम्, dvayam) = ಎರಡನ್ನೂ (the pair)
ಅಹೋ (अहो, aho) = ಆಹಾ (ah)
ಸುಮನಸಾಮ್ (सुमनसाम्, sumanasām) = ಹೂವುಗಳ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರ (of flowers, and of the good of mind)
ಪ್ರೀತಿಃ (प्रीतिः, prītiḥ) = ಪ್ರೀತಿ (the affection)
ವಾಮ (वाम, vāma) = ಎಡ (the left)
ದಕ್ಷಿಣಯೋಃ (दक्षिणयोः, dakṣiṇayoḥ) = ಬಲ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲೂ (and the right, in both)
ಸಮಾ (समा, samā) = ಒಂದೇ ಸಮ (is equal)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಬೊಗಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಹೂವುಗಳು ಎರಡೂ ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಮಳಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಆಹಾ, ಸುಮನಸರ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಡ ಬಲ ಎರಡಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದೇ ಸಮ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The flowers resting in cupped hands make both hands fragrant. Ah, the affection of the good of mind is the same to left and to right.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸುಮನಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಹೂವು ಎಂದೂ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವನು ಎಂದೂ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ಒಂದೇ ಪದದಿಂದ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಓದಬಹುದು: ಹೂವಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಸಜ್ಜನನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ.

The word sumanas means both a flower and a person of good mind. Because of that one word the second line can be read twice over: the flower’s kindness, and the good man’s kindness.

ವಾಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಡ, ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ವಕ್ರ, ವಿರುದ್ಧ. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಬಲ, ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ನೇರ, ಅನುಕೂಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಎಡ ಬಲ ಎಂಬುದು ವಿರೋಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಿತ್ರ ಎಂದೂ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾವ ಕೈ ಎಂದು ಹೂವು ಕೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

Vama means left, and also crooked or adverse. Dakshina means right, and also straight or favourable. So left and right also read as the hostile and the friendly. The flower does not ask which hand it is in.

ಅಞ್ಜಲಿ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಒಂದು ವಿವರ. ಎರಡು ಕೈ ಸೇರಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೊಗಸೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೂವು ಇರುವುದು ಆ ಎರಡೂ ಸೇರುವ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲೇ.

The word anjali is itself part of the point. Two hands make one vessel only when they are joined. The flower lies exactly where the two of them meet.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒರಟಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ರೋಗಿಗೂ, ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದ ರೋಗಿಗೂ ಒಂದೇ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ, ಒಂದೇ ಸಮಯ ಸಿಕ್ಕರೆ ಅದು ನಿಖರವಾಗಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವೇ.

When the patient who was rude and the patient who was grateful get the same examination and the same amount of time, that is precisely this verse.

ಸಮಾನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಸರಿ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಸಮಾನ ಸೌಜನ್ಯವನ್ನು, ಸಮಾನ ತೀರ್ಮಾನವನ್ನಲ್ಲ.

Equal affection does not mean that right and wrong are the same. What the verse asks for is equal courtesy, not equal judgement.
