ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನ ರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದೇ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿಡುವ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ರಾಮನವಮಿಯಂದು, ರಾಮರಕ್ಷಾ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರದ ಪಾರಾಯಣದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಮನ ಭಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ದಶರಥನ ಮಗ, ಸೀತೆಯ ಪತಿ, ರಘುವಂಶದ ದೀಪ, ಮೊಣಕಾಲಿನವರೆಗೆ ಚಾಚಿದ ತೋಳುಗಳ, ಕಮಲದಳದಂತಹ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳ ರಾಮ, ಹೀಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಪದವೂ ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಶ್ರೀರಾಘವಂ ದಶರಥಾತ್ಮಜಮಪ್ರಮೇಯಂ
ಸೀತಾಪತಿಂ ರಘುಕುಲಾನ್ವಯರತ್ನದೀಪಮ್ ।
ಆಜಾನುಬಾಹುಮರವಿಂದದಲಾಯತಾಕ್ಷಂ
ರಾಮಂ ನಿಶಾಚರವಿನಾಶಕರಂ ನಮಾಮಿ ॥

सीतापतिं रघुकुलान्वयरत्नदीपम् ।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಶ್ರೀರಾಘವಮ್ (श्रीराघवम्, śrīrāghavam) = ಶೋಭೆಯುಳ್ಳ ರಾಘವನನ್ನು (the glorious descendant of Raghu)
- ದಶರಥಾತ್ಮಜಮ್ (दशरथात्मजम्, daśarathātmajam) = ದಶರಥನ ಮಗನನ್ನು (the son of Dasharatha)
- ಅಪ್ರಮೇಯಮ್ (अप्रमेयम्, aprameyam) = ಅಳೆಯಲಾಗದವನನ್ನು (immeasurable)
- ಸೀತಾಪತಿಮ್ (सीतापतिम्, sītāpatim) = ಸೀತೆಯ ಪತಿಯನ್ನು (husband of Sita)
- ರಘುಕುಲಾನ್ವಯರತ್ನದೀಪಮ್ (रघुकुलान्वयरत्नदीपम्, raghukulānvayaratnadīpam) = ರಘುವಂಶದ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ರತ್ನದೀಪವನ್ನು (the jewelled lamp of the line of Raghu)
- ಆಜಾನುಬಾಹುಮ್ (आजानुबाहुम्, ājānubāhum) = ಮೊಣಕಾಲಿನವರೆಗೆ ಚಾಚಿದ ತೋಳುಗಳವನನ್ನು (whose arms reach to his knees)
- ಅರವಿಂದದಲಾಯತಾಕ್ಷಮ್ (अरविन्ददलायताक्षम्, aravindadalāyatākṣam) = ಕಮಲದ ದಳದಂತೆ ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳವನನ್ನು (with long eyes like lotus petals)
- ರಾಮಮ್ (रामम्, rāmam) = ರಾಮನನ್ನು (Rama)
- ನಿಶಾಚರವಿನಾಶಕರಮ್ (निशाचरविनाशकरम्, niśācaravināśakaram) = ರಾಕ್ಷಸರನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡಿದವನನ್ನು (destroyer of the demons of the night)
- ನಮಾಮಿ (नमामि, namāmi) = ನಮಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ (I bow)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಶೋಭೆಯುಳ್ಳ ರಾಘವನಿಗೆ, ದಶರಥನ ಮಗನಿಗೆ, ಅಳೆಯಲಾಗದವನಿಗೆ, ಸೀತೆಯ ಪತಿಗೆ, ರಘುವಂಶದ ರತ್ನದೀಪಕ್ಕೆ, ಮೊಣಕಾಲಿನವರೆಗೆ ಚಾಚಿದ ತೋಳುಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಕಮಲದ ದಳದಂತಹ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳ, ರಾಕ್ಷಸರನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡಿದ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ನಾನು ನಮಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
I bow to Rama, the glorious descendant of Raghu, son of Dasharatha, immeasurable, husband of Sita, the jewelled lamp of Raghu’s line, whose arms reach his knees, whose eyes are long like lotus petals, and who destroyed the demons of the night.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಇದರ ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ವಸಂತತಿಲಕಾ. ರಾಮರಕ್ಷಾ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರದ ಪಾರಾಯಣದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವ ರೂಢಿ ಅನೇಕ ಕಡೆ ಇದೆ. ಇದರ ಮೂಲ ಗ್ರಂಥವನ್ನು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು.
The metre is vasantatilaka. In many places it is said along with the recitation of the Rama Raksha Stotra. Its original source cannot be fixed with certainty.
ಆಜಾನುಬಾಹು ಎಂದರೆ ಮೊಣಕಾಲಿನವರೆಗೆ ಚಾಚುವ ಉದ್ದ ತೋಳುಗಳು. ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಕಾವ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಮಹಾಪುರುಷನ ಲಕ್ಷಣವೆಂದು ವರ್ಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ನಿಶಾಚರ ಎಂದರೆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವವನು, ಅಂದರೆ ರಾಕ್ಷಸ.
Ajanubahu means arms long enough to reach the knees, described in the old poems as a mark of a great person. Nishachara, one who roams at night, means a demon.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ರತ್ನದೀಪ ಎಂಬ ಉಪಮೆ ಸುಂದರ. ಎಣ್ಣೆಬತ್ತಿಯ ದೀಪ ಆರಿಹೋಗಬಹುದು, ರತ್ನದ ಬೆಳಕು ತಾನೇ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಮನನ್ನು ರಘುಕುಲದ ದೀಪ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವ ಈ ಮಾತು, ಒಂದು ಮನೆತನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಳಕು ತರುವುದು ಅದರವರ ನಡತೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
The image of a jewelled lamp is lovely. An oil lamp can go out, while a jewel shines of itself. Calling Rama the lamp of Raghu’s line reminds us that it is the conduct of its people that brings light to a family.
