ಗುರುವಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಷ್ಯ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬರುವುದೇ ಗುರು ಪುಷ್ಯ. ಇದು ತನ್ನದೇ ಕಥೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಹಬ್ಬವಲ್ಲ, ಒಂದು ಯೋಗ: ಆರಂಭಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದೆಂದು ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುವ ವಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದ ಜೋಡಿ. ಗುರುವಾರ ಗುರುವಿನ ದಿನ, ಅಂದರೆ ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಯ, ಗುರು ಗ್ರಹದ ದಿನ; ಪುಷ್ಯ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದ ಅಧಿದೇವತೆಯೂ ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಯೇ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಜೋಡಿಯನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಪಟ್ಟು ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿ ಎಂದು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಕೆಲವು ಬಾರಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗಮನಿಸುವುದು ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ; ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆಭರಣ ಅಂಗಡಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳು ಅದನ್ನು ಮುಂಚಿತವಾಗಿಯೇ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಪುಷ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಗುರುವಾರ
ಪುಷ್ಯ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇಳು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟನೆಯದು; ಅದು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಕರ್ಕ ರಾಶಿಯೊಳಗೆ, ಆ ರಾಶಿಯ 3 ಡಿಗ್ರಿ 20 ಕಲೆಯಿಂದ 16 ಡಿಗ್ರಿ 40 ಕಲೆಯವರೆಗೆ ಇದೆ. ಅದರ ಹೆಸರಿಗೆ ಪೋಷಿಸುವುದು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಬಹುತೇಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾದ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಎಣಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಗುರುವಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಷ್ಯದ ಜೋಡಿಯನ್ನು ಅಮೃತ ಸಿದ್ಧಿ ಯೋಗ ಎಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ; ಒಂದೊಂದು ವಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದಂತೆ ಇರುವ ಏಳು ಜೋಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಒಂದು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರು ಪುಷ್ಯಾಮೃತ ಎಂದೂ ಹೆಸರು. ಅನುದಿನದ ಅಮೃತ ಸಿದ್ಧಿ ಯೋಗಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇದಿದೆ.
ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ
ಉಳಿದು ಬೆಳೆಯಬೇಕಾದ ಆರಂಭಗಳಿಗೆ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಚಿನ್ನ, ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಅಥವಾ ಆಭರಣ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಅಥವಾ ಹೂಡಿಕೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸುವುದು, ವಾಹನ ಅಥವಾ ಮನೆ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ ಶಂಕುಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ, ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸದ ಆರಂಭ, ಮತ್ತು ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು. ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿ ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಗುರುವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇದು ಗುರುಪೂಜೆಗೆ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಾನಕ್ಕೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ದಿನ. ಕೆಲವು ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಯ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಈ ದಿನ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಹೊರತು ಇದೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಮದುವೆಗೆ ಪುಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಮದುವೆಗೆ ಬೇರೆಯೇ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ. ಅನುದಿನದ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಶೋಧಕ ವಿವಾಹಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುವ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಪುಷ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಗುರು ಪುಷ್ಯ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸುವ ದಿನ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಬಗೆಯ ಸಮಾರಂಭಗಳಿಗಲ್ಲ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಷ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಬರುವುದು ಒಂದು ಚಾಂದ್ರಮಾಸದ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿ: ಪುಷ್ಯ ಮಾಸ, ಉತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೌಷ. ಆ ಮಾಸದ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆ ಈ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದ ಬಳಿ ಬರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಹೆಸರು. ವಾರದ ಈ ಯೋಗ ಬೇರೆಯದೇ ವಿಷಯ; ಅದು ಯಾವ ಮಾಸದಲ್ಲೂ ಬರಬಹುದು.
ಅನುದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ದಿನ
ಪುಷ್ಯ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ತಾಗುವ ಯಾವುದೇ ಗುರುವಾರವನ್ನು ಅನುದಿನ ಗುರು ಪುಷ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ದಿನವನ್ನು ಎಣಿಸುವಂತೆ ಗುರುವಾರವನ್ನು ಅದರ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದಿಂದ ಮರುದಿನದ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದವರೆಗೆ ಎಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುಷ್ಯ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇರಬಹುದು, ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಬಹುದು, ಅಥವಾ ಶುಕ್ರವಾರದ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚಿನ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಬಹುದು; ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಆ ಗುರುವಾರವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ದಿನದ ಯಾವ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಆವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಖರೀದಿಯನ್ನೋ ಆರಂಭವನ್ನೋ ಅದರೊಳಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುವಂತೆ. ಒಂದು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ, ಚಂದ್ರ ಸುಮಾರು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇಳು ದಿನಕ್ಕೊಮ್ಮೆ ಪುಷ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮರಳುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಗುರುವಾರದ ಪುಷ್ಯ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಕೆಲವೇ ಬಾರಿ, ಹಲವು ಸಲ ಸತತ ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನುದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಾಂಕಗಳು 2027ರ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 18, ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 18 ಮತ್ತು ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 15. ಇದು ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೇ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಬಂದರೆ ಅದು ರವಿ ಪುಷ್ಯ.
Guru Pushya is the meeting of a Thursday with the nakshatra Pushya. It is not a festival with a story of its own but a yoga, a pairing of weekday and nakshatra that the almanacs single out as good for beginnings. Thursday is Guru’s day, the day of Brihaspati, the planet Jupiter, and Brihaspati is also the presiding deity of Pushya, so the combination is read as Brihaspati twice over. It comes a few times a year, and it is most widely watched in the North and West of India, where jewellers and traders announce it in advance.
Pushya and Thursday
Pushya is the eighth of the twenty-seven nakshatras and lies wholly within Karka rashi, from 3 degrees 20 minutes to 16 degrees 40 minutes of the sign. Its name is taken to mean nourishing, and it is counted among the favourable nakshatras for most undertakings. The almanacs list the pair of Thursday and Pushya as an amrita siddhi yoga, one of seven pairings of a weekday with a particular nakshatra, which is why the day is also called Guru Pushyamrita. Anudina’s own list of amrita siddhi yogas includes it.
What is done
The day is used for beginnings meant to last and grow: buying gold, silver or jewellery, starting a business or an investment, buying a vehicle or a house, laying a foundation stone, beginning a course of study, and taking up a spiritual practice. Because Brihaspati is the guru of the devas, it is also a day for guru puja, for buying religious books and for dana. Some households worship Lakshmi and Vishnu on it for the prosperity of the house.
One exception is generally made. Many almanacs do not use Pushya for a wedding, which has its own muhurta, and Pushya is not among the nakshatras Anudina’s muhurta finder accepts for a marriage. A Guru Pushya is a day for starting things, not for every kind of ceremony.
In Karnataka the word Pushya is heard most often as the name of a lunar month, Pushya masa, which the North calls Pausha. That month takes its name from this nakshatra, near which its full moon falls. The weekday yoga is a different matter and can fall in any month.
Which day Anudina gives
Anudina marks Guru Pushya on any Thursday that Pushya touches, counting the Thursday as the almanacs count a day, from its sunrise to the next sunrise. Pushya may be running at sunrise, or may begin later in the day, or late at night before Friday’s sunrise; in each case the Thursday is marked, and Anudina shows the part of the day the nakshatra actually covers, so that a purchase or a beginning can be timed within it. A nakshatra lasts about a day and the moon returns to Pushya roughly every twenty-seven days, so a Thursday Pushya comes only a few times a year, often in successive months. The next dates Anudina gives are 18 February, 18 March and 15 April 2027. It is shown in every regional setting. The same nakshatra on a Sunday is Ravi Pushya.
