ಶ್ಲೋಕ 11.41ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 11.41
What comes first to the mind of Arjuna, who has seen the cosmic form, is the old familiarity of friendship. Sridhara Swami calls these two verses a plea for forgiveness. For Shankara ‘sakha’ means one of equal age, and ‘prasabham’ means forcefully, overriding the other. Ramanuja gives ‘pranaya’ the sense of long acquaintance, and ‘prasabham’ the sense of without humility.
The acharyas notice two points of language in this verse. The sandhi ‘sakheti’ does not fit the ordinary rule of grammar, and Sridhara Swami calls it an archaic usage of the sages. ‘Mahimanam’ is masculine and ‘idam’ neuter. So, says Shankara, ‘idam’ must be connected separately with the cosmic form, and if the reading ‘tavemam’ exists it fits directly. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
We take those closest to us lightly. A wife, a husband, parents, old friends: we rarely see their greatness.
Arjuna needed the cosmic form. Sometimes a single night in hospital is enough for us to learn the worth of those close to us. It is good to tell them so before that.
