ಯದಹಂಕಾರಮಾಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ ನ ಯೋತ್ಸ್ಯ ಇತಿ ಮನ್ಯಸೇ।
ಮಿಥ್ಯೈಷ ವ್ಯವಸಾಯಸ್ತೇ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಸ್ತ್ವಾಂ ನಿಯೋಕ್ಷ್ಯತಿ ॥ 59 ॥

यदहङ्कारमाश्रित्य न योत्स्य इति मन्यसे।
मिथ्यैष व्यवसायस्ते प्रकृतिस्त्वां नियोक्ष्यति ॥ 59 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
yadahaṅkāramāśritya na yotsya iti manyase|
mithyaiṣa vyavasāyaste prakṛtistvāṃ niyokṣyati || 59 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯತ್ ಅಹಂಕಾರಮ್ ಆಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ (यत् अहङ्कारम् आश्रित्य, yat ahaṅkāram āśritya) = ಅಹಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿ (resorting to ego)
- ನ ಯೋತ್ಸ್ಯೇ ಇತಿ ಮನ್ಯಸೇ (न योत्स्ये इति मन्यसे, na yotsye iti manyase) = ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನೀನು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ (if you think ‘I will not fight’)
- ತೇ ಏಷಃ ವ್ಯವಸಾಯಃ ಮಿಥ್ಯಾ (ते एषः व्यवसायः मिथ्या, te eṣaḥ vyavasāyaḥ mithyā) = ನಿನ್ನ ಈ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ (this resolve of yours is vain)
- ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಃ ತ್ವಾಂ ನಿಯೋಕ್ಷ್ಯತಿ (प्रकृतिः त्वां नियोक्ष्यति, prakṛtiḥ tvāṃ niyokṣyati) = ನಿನ್ನ ಸ್ವಭಾವವೇ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (your own nature will compel you)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಹಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿ ‘ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂದು ನೀನು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಈ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ. ನಿನ್ನ ಸ್ವಭಾವವೇ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
If, resorting to ego, you think ‘I will not fight’, this resolve of yours is vain. Your own nature will compel you.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 18.59ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 18.59
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ನಾನು ನಾಶವಾದರೂ ಸರಿ, ಬಂಧುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.’ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಉತ್ತರ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ‘ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಸ್ವಭಾವ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಈ ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಸಾಂಖ್ಯಾದಿ ಮತದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ, ಸ್ವಭಾವ, ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ಅಧೀನತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಎರಡು ಭಗವಂತನ ಸ್ವಮತ.
Sridhara Swami writes out Arjuna’s thought: ‘even if I perish, I will not fight my kinsmen.’ This is the reply to it. According to Shankara ‘prakriti’ means Arjuna’s kshatriya nature. According to Sridhara Swami these two verses state dependence on prakriti, nature and karma as in the Sankhya and similar views, and the next two give the Lord’s own view.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಅಹಂಕಾರ’ವನ್ನು ಹಿತ ಅಹಿತಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ತಾನು ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಅಭಿಮಾನ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಭಗವಂತನ ಆದೇಶವನ್ನು ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಿ ‘ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯದ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯೇ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja takes ‘ego’ as the conceit of being independent in knowing what is good and bad: disregarding the Lord’s command, the independent resolve ‘I will not fight’ will be in vain, and prakriti itself will engage you in the battle. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಓಡಿಹೋಗುವ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲವಾಗಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅದು ಬೇರೆ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಎದುರಿಸಲು ನೆರವು ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಮೇಲು.
A decision to run away from responsibility does not make the problem disappear, it returns in another form. Getting help to face it is better than avoiding it.
ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಅರಿತು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕ ದಾರಿ ಆರಿಸುವುದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಬಲವಂತವಾಗಿ ಹತ್ತಿಕ್ಕುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ.
Understanding our nature and choosing a path suited to it is healthier than forcibly suppressing it.
