Context and commentary on verse 6.10
Here the practical account of the yoga of meditation begins: place, seat, posture, the stance of the mind, food and sleep. Sridhara Swami calls it the method of yoga with its limbs; it runs to verse thirty-two.
Shankara sees a hint of renunciation in ‘in seclusion’ and ‘alone’: solitude like a mountain cave, aloneness without helpers, a state that has given up all possessions. Ramanuja’s reading is kinder to the householder: ‘constantly’ means every day at the time of yoga, ‘in seclusion’ means in a place without people and without noise. The yogi for him is one already established in the yoga of action described earlier.
For ‘nirashih’ Sridhara Swami gives, besides ‘free of longing’, another sense, ‘without food’. But in verses sixteen and seventeen the Gita itself says yoga does not succeed for one who fasts excessively. For Madhva ‘atmanam’ means the mind, which is to be set in the yoga of absorption.

For life today
A cave is hard to find today, but ten minutes of solitude in a day may be possible. For many, putting the phone in another room, closing the door and sitting alone has become a difficult task.
Solitude and loneliness are different. A little chosen solitude rests the mind. But long, unwanted loneliness can harm health, and what it needs is contact with people.
