The Dinesha Stava is a small hymn of just two verses. The devotee calls directly to the Sun, lord of the day, and lays his request before him. In the first verse he asks the Sun to dry up the mud in the lake of his mind.
In the second verse he takes the Sun’s own pride as his handle, and says that driving out the outer darkness is not enough: remove the blindness within as well. In both verses the prayer has a touch of friendly boldness.

O lord of the day, O Sun of fierce rays, dry up the mud in the lake of my mind. If you do not, tell me how these rays of yours could be called fierce.
O lord of the day, you take pride in vain for driving out the thick darkness outside. If you have the power, quickly remove the blindness that sits within me.
About this hymn
This hymn is from the website of the Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetham. The source says that Jagadguru Sri Sachchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswami composed it at the Suryanarayana temple near Shringagiri. We give no date of composition.
The word kharausra in the first verse carries the name of the sharpness of the Sun’s rays. The hymn’s argument rests on this name: how could a ray that cannot dry mud deserve to be called sharp?
We print the text as the source gives it, with only mechanical clean-up. The way the lines of the first verse are read is a little doubtful. We take kharausra as a call, O Sun of fierce rays, and take the mud in the lake of the mind to be the sense of the first two lines.
The hymn has only two verses and no verse on the fruit of reciting.

For life today
On a sunny day we spread wet clothes on a line behind the house, and by evening they are dry. The sun draws the dampness out of the cloth without a sound. We feel this work is a little more delicate than driving out the dark outside.
Our minds hold such dampness too: an old grievance, a small envy, a thought that will not leave. The prayer of the second verse asks for exactly this. To ask that the dullness left within be removed, even when the outer light has come, is a fitting thing to say after standing quietly for a minute at the start of the day.
