ಇದೊಂದು ಮಧುರೆಯ ದೇವಿ ಮೀನಾಕ್ಷಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ತುತಿಸುವ ಎಂಟು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ: ಮಾಂ ಪಾಹಿ ಮೀನಾಂಬಿಕೇ, ಅಂದರೆ ಓ ಮೀನಾಂಬಿಕೆ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡು.
This is a hymn of eight verses praising Meenakshi, the Goddess of Madurai. Every verse ends with the same prayer: mam pahi Meenambike, which means, O Meenambika, protect me.

- 1 ಓ ಶ್ರೀವಿದ್ಯೆ, ಶಿವನ ಎಡಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದವಳೇ, ಶ್ರೀರಾಜರಾಜೇಶ್ವರನಿಂದ ಅರ್ಚಿತಳೇ, ಶ್ರೀನಾಥ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಗುರುಗಳ ರೂಪದ ವೈಭವವುಳ್ಳವಳೇ, ಚಿಂತಾಮಣಿಯ ಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲಿರುವವಳೇ. ಸರಸ್ವತೀ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ನಮಿಸುವ ಪಾದಕಮಲದವಳೇ, ಶಾಂಭವೀ, ಶಿವೇ, ಮಲಯಧ್ವಜ ರಾಜನ ಮಗಳೇ. ಓ ಮೀನಾಂಬಿಕೇ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡು.

You who wear a crown, armlets and jewelled earrings, adorned with bow and arrows. Long garlands shine over your breasts, which are like a pair of chakravaka birds. Your lotus feet, with tinkling anklets, are decked with jewelled sandals. Your eyes are half closed at the sound of the veena, and your heavy braid hangs loose. Your lips are like tender leaves, reddened by betel, and you wear ear ornaments and necklaces. You are the Word-Brahman, all that moves and does not move, light and speech. You are eternal bliss, the stainless, the truth and pure consciousness. You are beyond the principles of creation, higher than the highest, maya and Sri, all prosperity and Sadashiva. O Meenambika, protect me.

ಶಂಕರ ಭಗವತ್ಪಾದರದ್ದು ಎಂದು ಪರಂಪರೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಲವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
Tradition ascribes it to Shankara Bhagavatpada. We do not give a date.
ದೇವಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀವಿದ್ಯೆಯೂ ಹೌದು, ಮಲಯಧ್ವಜ ರಾಜನ ಮಗಳೂ ಹೌದು. ಅಂದರೆ ಮಧುರೆಯ ಮೀನಾಕ್ಷಿಯನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಚಕ್ರದ ಪರದೇವತೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾಣಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅವಳನ್ನು ಶಬ್ದಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ಚೈತನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸದಾಶಿವ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದು ಅದ್ವೈತ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.
The Goddess is here both Sri Vidya and the daughter of King Malayadhvaja. That is, Meenakshi of Madurai is also seen as the supreme deity of the Sri Chakra. The eighth verse calls her the Word-Brahman, consciousness and Sadashiva, which agrees with the Advaita view.
ಎಂಟು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳೂ ಒಂದೇ ರಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ: ಮೊದಲ ಮೂರು ಸಾಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಬೋಧನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಂ ಪಾಹಿ ಮೀನಾಂಬಿಕೇ. ಮೂರನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ದಾರಿದ್ರ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಕೊರತೆಯ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ, ರೋಗ ಗುಣವಾಗುವ ಭರವಸೆಯಲ್ಲ.
All eight verses follow one pattern: forms of address in the first three lines and mam pahi Meenambike at the end. The word poverty in the third verse is a prayer about want of wealth and not a promise of curing disease.
ಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಸಂದೇಹದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿವೆ. ಮೊದಲ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನೇ ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಪಾಠದಂತೆಯೇ ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಅದರ ಸೂಚನೆ ದೇವಿ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ಆರಾಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಎಂದು. ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ತತ್ತ್ವಮ್ಮಯೀ ಎಂಬ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ತತ್ತ್ವವೇ ಆಗಿರುವವಳು ಎಂದು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುದ್ರಾ ಮತ್ತು ಐದನೆಯದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂತ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಭೇದವಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಪಾಠದಂತೆಯೇ ಅರ್ಥೈಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
A few places in the text are doubtful. We have kept the word madhyahne in the first verse as it stands, which suggests the Goddess is present in midday worship. The form tattvammayi in the eighth verse we have taken as one who is the truth itself. The fourth verse reads mudra and the fifth mantra, and we have translated both as they stand.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಸಂಜೆಯ ಹೊತ್ತು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಕೊಳದ ಬಳಿ ಕುಳಿತ ಅನುಭವ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕರಿಗೆ ಇದೆ. ದೀಪದ ಬೆಳಕು ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡುಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಗಂಟೆಯ ನಾದ ದೂರದಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಆ ಕೊಳದ ಅಲೆಗಳಂತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬಂದು ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಶಾಂತಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Many of us know what it is to sit by a temple tank at evening. The light of a lamp trembles on the water and the sound of a bell comes from afar. The prayer at the end of each verse of this hymn returns again and again, like ripples on that tank, and quietens the mind.
ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನೀನೇ ಎಂಬ ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಭಾವವನ್ನು ದಿನದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣ ನೆನೆದರೆ, ನಮ್ಮ ಚಿಂತೆಗಳು ಅಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡದಾಗಿ ತೋರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
If at the end of the day we remember for a moment the thought of the eighth verse, that all is you, our worries may not seem so large.
