ಮಾನ್ಯಾ ಏವ ಹಿ ಮಾನ್ಯಾನಾಂ: ಶಿವನ ತಲೆಯ ಚಂದ್ರ, ರಾಹುವಿನ ಬಾಯಿ

ಒಂದು ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಕರೆದು ಕೂರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ಕರೆದವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ಒಂದು ಸಂಗತಿ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಆ ಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ, ಚಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಎರಡು ಬಗೆಯ ಸ್ವಾಗತವನ್ನು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಪಕ್ಕಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮಾನ್ಯಾ ಏವ ಹಿ ಮಾನ್ಯಾನಾಂ ಮಾನಂ ಕುರ್ವನ್ತಿ ನೇತರೇ ।
ಶಂಭುರ್ಬಿಭರ್ತಿ ಮೂರ್ಧ್ನೀನ್ದುಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನುಸ್ತಂ ಜಿಘೃಕ್ಷತಿ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

मान्या एव हि मान्यानां मानं कुर्वन्ति नेतरे ।
शंभुर्बिभर्ति मूर्ध्नीन्दुं स्वर्भानुस्तं जिघृक्षति ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

mānyā eva hi mānyānāṃ mānaṃ kurvanti netare |
śaṃbhurbibharti mūrdhnīnduṃ svarbhānustaṃ jighṛkṣati ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಮಾನ್ಯಾಃ (मान्याः, mānyāḥ) = ಮಾನ್ಯರು (those worthy of honour)
ಏವ (एव, eva) = ಮಾತ್ರ (alone)
ಹಿ (हि, hi) = ಖಂಡಿತ (indeed)
ಮಾನ್ಯಾನಾಮ್ (मान्यानाम्, mānyānām) = ಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗೆ (to those worthy of honour)
ಮಾನಮ್ (मानम्, mānam) = ಗೌರವವನ್ನು (honour)
ಕುರ್ವನ್ತಿ (कुर्वन्ति, kurvanti) = ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ (pay)
ನ ಇತರೇ (न इतरे, na itare) = ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (others do not)
ಶಂಭುಃ (शंभुः, śaṃbhuḥ) = ಶಂಭು, ಅಂದರೆ ಶಿವ (Shambhu, that is Shiva)
ಬಿಭರ್ತಿ (बिभर्ति, bibharti) = ಹೊರುತ್ತಾನೆ (bears)
ಮೂರ್ಧ್ನಿ (मूर्ध्नि, mūrdhni) = ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ (on his head)
ಇನ್ದುಮ್ (इन्दुम्, indum) = ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು (the moon)
ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನುಃ (स्वर्भानुः, svarbhānuḥ) = ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನು, ಅಂದರೆ ರಾಹು (Svarbhanu, that is Rahu)
ತಮ್ (तम्, tam) = ಅವನನ್ನೇ (that same moon)
ಜಿಘೃಕ್ಷತಿ (जिघृक्षति, jighṛkṣati) = ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಹೊರಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (seeks to seize)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯರಾದವರಿಗೆ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವವರು ಮಾನ್ಯರೇ. ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಶಿವ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನು ಅದೇ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಹೊರಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Only those worthy of honour pay honour to the honourable. Others do not. Shambhu carries the moon on his head. Svarbhanu goes after that same moon to seize it.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಜಿಘೃಕ್ಷತಿ ಎಂಬುದು ಗ್ರಹ್ ಧಾತುವಿನ ಇಚ್ಛಾರೂಪ. ಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಅದರ ಅರ್ಥ. ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎನ್ನಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಸಫಲವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಪದದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದೆ.

Jighrikshati is the desiderative of the root grah. It means he wants to seize. It does not say he seizes. That the attempt does not fully succeed is already in the word.

ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನು ಎಂಬುದು ರಾಹುವಿನ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು, ಹಳೆಯದೆಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಅರ್ಥ ಆಕಾಶದ ಬೆಳಕು. ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ನುಂಗಲು ಹೊರಟವನಿಗೆ ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಹೆಸರೇ ಇರುವುದು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಸಂಗತಿ.

Svarbhanu is one of the names of Rahu, and is well known as an old one. The name itself means the light of the sky. That the one who sets out to swallow light carries a name made of light is worth noticing.

ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನ ಎಂಬ ಪದಗಳು ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಬಂದಿವೆ. ಒಂದೇ ಬೇರಿನ ಪದವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಇಟ್ಟು, ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುವವನೂ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯನೇ ಎಂಬ ವರ್ತುಲವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Manya and mana appear three times in the first line. By setting down words from one root again and again, a circle is built: the one who gives honour is himself worthy of it.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒಬ್ಬರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಅಳತೆ ಅವರು ಯಾರನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ತಮಗಿಂತ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವವರು ಅದರಿಂದ ಚಿಕ್ಕವರಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

The measure of a mind is found in whom it praises. Those who name in a meeting the people who work better than they do are not made smaller by it.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಡೆ, ಗೌರವ ಸಿಗದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅದು ತನ್ನ ಬೆಲೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನನ್ನೋ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದೆಯೇ ಎಂದು ಗಾಬರಿಪಡಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಚಂದ್ರನ ಬೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಶಿವನೂ ರಾಹುವೂ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಬದಲಿಸಿಲ್ಲ.

On the other side, when honour does not come there is no need to panic that this says something about your worth. Neither Shiva nor Rahu altered what the moon is worth.
