ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮಹಾಮಾಯಾನುಭಾವೇನ ಯಥಾ ಮನ್ವಂತರಾಧಿಪಃ ।
ಸ ಬಭೂವ ಮಹಾಭಾಗಃ ಸಾವರ್ಣಿಸ್ತನಯೋ ರವೇಃ ॥ 3 ॥

महामायानुभावेन यथा मन्वन्तराधिपः ।
स बभूव महाभागः सावर्णिस्तनयो रवेः ॥ 3 ॥

sa babhūva mahābhāgaḥ sāvarṇistanayo raveḥ || 3 ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಮಹಾಮಾಯಾನುಭಾವೇನ (महामायानुभावेन, mahāmāyānubhāvena) = ಮಹಾಮಾಯೆಯ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ, ಮಹಿಮೆಯಿಂದ (by the power of Mahamaya)
ಯಥಾ (यथा, yathā) = ಹೇಗೆ (how)
ಮನ್ವಂತರಾಧಿಪಃ (मन्वन्तराधिपः, manvantarādhipaḥ) = ಮನ್ವಂತರದ ಅಧಿಪತಿ, ಮನು (lord of a manvantara, a Manu)
ಸ ಬಭೂವ (स बभूव, sa babhūva) = ಅವನು ಆದನು (he became)
ಮಹಾಭಾಗಃ (महाभागः, mahābhāgaḥ) = ಮಹಾಭಾಗ್ಯಶಾಲಿ (the greatly fortunate one)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಆ ಮಹಾಭಾಗ ಸಾವರ್ಣಿಯು ಮಹಾಮಾಯೆಯ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ಮನ್ವಂತರದ ಅಧಿಪತಿಯಾದ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು (ಕೇಳು).

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

(Listen to) how that greatly fortunate Savarni, son of the Sun, became the lord of a manvantara through the power of Mahamaya.

ಶ್ಲೋಕ 1.3ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 1.3

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹಿಂದಿನದರ ಮುಂದುವರಿಕೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಯಥಾ (ಹೇಗೆ) ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ನಿಶಾಮಯ (ಕೇಳು) ಎಂಬ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನ ಹುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಕೇಳು, ಅವನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮನುವಾದ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳು ಎಂದು ಎರಡೂ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಒಂದು ವಾಕ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ.

This verse continues the previous one. Its yatha (how) attaches to nishamaya (listen) in the verse before. Together the two verses make one sentence: hear of his origin, hear how he became Manu.

ಮಹಾಮಾಯಾ ಇಡೀ ಸಪ್ತಶತಿಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಪದ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಯೆ ಎಂದರೆ ದೇವಿಯ ಅಚಿಂತ್ಯ ಶಕ್ತಿ (ಊಹೆಗೆ ನಿಲುಕದ ಶಕ್ತಿ). ಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೋಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟುವವಳೂ ಅವಳೇ, ಅದರಿಂದ ಬಿಡಿಸುವ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯೂ ಅವಳೇ ಎಂದು ಇದೇ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಮುಂದಿನ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಧಸ ಋಷಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅನುಭಾವ ಎಂದರೆ ಪ್ರಭಾವ, ಮಹಿಮೆ.

Mahamaya is the key word of the whole Saptashati. Maya here means the inconceivable power of the Devi. Later in this very chapter the sage Medhas says that she binds beings in delusion and she is also the knowledge that frees them from it. Anubhava means power, majesty.

ಮನ್ವಂತರ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುವಿನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ಕಾಲ. ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ಮನ್ವಂತರಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಒಂದು ಹಗಲು (ಕಲ್ಪ) ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಪುರಾಣಗಳು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಮನ್ವಂತರಾಧಿಪ ಎಂದರೆ ಆ ಕಾಲದ ಅಧಿಪತಿ, ಆ ಯುಗದ ಮನು.

A manvantara is the period over which one Manu presides. The Puranas say that fourteen manvantaras make one day of Brahma (a kalpa). Manvantaradhipa means the lord of that period, the Manu of that age.

ಕಥೆ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲೇ ತನ್ನ ಅಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಂದೆ ಸೋತು ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ರಾಜ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಮನುವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುಗನಿಗೆ ಮೊದಲೇ ಗೊತ್ತು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಗಮನ ಏನಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೇಗಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದರ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಹಾಭಾಗ (ಮಹಾ ಭಾಗ್ಯಶಾಲಿ) ಎಂಬ ವಿಶೇಷಣ ಸುರಥನಿಗೂ ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

The story tells its ending at the very start. The listener knows beforehand that the king who will be defeated and driven to the forest ends as a Manu. So attention rests on how it happened more than on what happened. The epithet mahabhaga (greatly fortunate) returns for Suratha in the verses that follow.

ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ಬರುವ ದಿನ ನಾವು ಅಂಕಿಯನ್ನೇ ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದು ಆ ಅಂಕಿಗೆ ಮುಂಚಿನ ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳು, ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾ ಕೊಠಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮೊದಲಿನ ದಿನಗಳು.

On the day results come out, we look only at the number. Yet what shaped us were the months before it, the days before we walked into the exam hall.

ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಪುರಾಣ ಸಾವರ್ಣಿಯ ಏಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿ ಮಹಾಮಾಯೆಯ ಪ್ರಭಾವವನ್ನು ಹೆಸರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಮೀರಿದ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಅಂಶಗಳಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ನೆನೆದರೆ ಗೆಲುವಿನ ದಿನವೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ವಿನಯ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

The Purana also names the power of Mahamaya as the cause of Savarni’s rise. If we remember how much in our own success lay beyond our control, a little humility stays with us even on the day we win.
