ದೇವಕಿಯ ಗರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಪಾಂಡವರನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿದವರೆಗಿನ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಒಂದೇ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಏಕಶ್ಲೋಕೀ ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಮಾದರಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಇದರ ರಚನೆ.
ಕೃಷ್ಣಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿಯಂದು ಮತ್ತು ಭಾಗವತ ಪಾರಾಯಣದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವ ರೂಢಿ ಇದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಆದೌ ದೇವಕಿದೇವಿಗರ್ಭಜನನಂ ಗೋಪೀಗೃಹೇ ವರ್ಧನಂ
ಮಾಯಾಪೂತನಜೀವಿತಾಪಹರಣಂ ಗೋವರ್ಧನೋದ್ಧಾರಣಮ್ ।
ಕಂಸಚ್ಛೇದನಕೌರವಾದಿಹನನಂ ಕುಂತೀಸುತಾನಾಂ ಪಾಲನಂ
ಏತದ್ಭಾಗವತಂ ಪುರಾಣಕಥಿತಂ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣಲೀಲಾಮೃತಮ್ ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಆದೌ (आदौ, ādau) = ಮೊದಲು (first)
- ದೇವಕಿದೇವಿಗರ್ಭಜನನಮ್ (देवकिदेविगर्भजननम्, devakidevigarbhajananam) = ದೇವಕೀ ದೇವಿಯ ಗರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು (birth from the womb of Devaki)
- ಗೋಪೀಗೃಹೇ ವರ್ಧನಮ್ (गोपीगृहे वर्धनम्, gopīgṛhe vardhanam) = ಗೋಪಿ ಯಶೋದೆಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದದ್ದು (growing up in the home of the gopi Yashoda)
- ಮಾಯಾಪೂತನಜೀವಿತಾಪಹರಣಮ್ (मायापूतनजीवितापहरणम्, māyāpūtanajīvitāpaharaṇam) = ಮಾಯಾವಿನಿ ಪೂತನಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೆಗೆದದ್ದು (taking the life of the deceiving Putana)

- ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣಲೀಲಾಮೃತಮ್ (श्रीकृष्णलीलामृतम्, śrīkṛṣṇalīlāmṛtam) = ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಲೀಲೆಗಳ ಅಮೃತ (the nectar of Sri Krishna’s deeds)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಮೊದಲು ದೇವಕೀ ದೇವಿಯ ಗರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಗೋಪಿ ಯಶೋದೆಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದದ್ದು, ಮಾಯಾವಿನಿ ಪೂತನಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೆಗೆದದ್ದು, ಗೋವರ್ಧನ ಪರ್ವತವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಕಂಸನ ವಧೆ, ಕೌರವರೇ ಮೊದಲಾದವರ ನಾಶ, ಕುಂತಿಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿದ್ದು. ಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಲೀಲೆಗಳ ಅಮೃತವಾದ ಇದೇ ಭಾಗವತ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
First, his birth from the womb of Devaki, his growing up in the home of the gopi Yashoda, taking the life of the deceiving Putana, lifting the Govardhana hill, slaying Kamsa, the fall of the Kauravas and others, and the protection of the sons of Kunti. This is the Bhagavatam told in the Purana, the nectar of Sri Krishna’s deeds.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಕೌರವರ ನಾಶ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಂಡವರ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಕಥೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದರೂ, ಭಾಗವತದಲ್ಲೂ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಆ ಕೆಲಸಗಳ ಸ್ಮರಣೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ, ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಕುಂತಿಯ ಸ್ತುತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಇಡೀ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
Though the fall of the Kauravas and the protection of the Pandavas belong to the Mahabharata story, the Bhagavatam too recalls these deeds of Krishna, for instance in Kunti’s prayer. So this verse holds Krishna’s whole life together.
ಇದರ ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ಶಾರ್ದೂಲವಿಕ್ರೀಡಿತ. ಏಕಶ್ಲೋಕೀ ರಾಮಾಯಣದಂತೆಯೇ ಇದೂ ಆದೌ ಎಂಬ ಪದದಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಏಕಶ್ಲೋಕೀ ರಾಮಾಯಣಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ತಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಪುಟವಿದೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆತ್ತ ತಾಯಿ ಒಬ್ಬಳು, ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ತಾಯಿ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬಳು. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲೇ ಅವರಿಬ್ಬರನ್ನೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೆತ್ತವರಷ್ಟೇ ಸಾಕಿದವರೂ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಇಂದಿನ ಅನೇಕ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿಗೂ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.
In Krishna’s story one mother bore him and another raised him, and the first line of this verse remembers both together. That those who raise a child matter as much as those who bear it holds true for many families today.
