ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಓದುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಹೇಳುವ ಗೀತಾ ಧ್ಯಾನದ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ. ಉಪನಿಷತ್ತುಗಳೇ ಹಸುಗಳು, ಕೃಷ್ಣನೇ ಹಾಲು ಕರೆಯುವವನು, ಅರ್ಜುನನೇ ಕರು, ಗೀತೆಯೇ ಹಾಲು ಎಂಬ ಸುಂದರ ಉಪಮೆ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
ವಸುದೇವಸುತಂ ದೇವಂ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಕಂ ಕರೋತಿ ವಾಚಾಲಂ ಎಂಬ ಗೀತಾ ಧ್ಯಾನದ ಇನ್ನೆರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಿಗೆ ಈ ತಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಪುಟಗಳಿವೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸರ್ವೋಪನಿಷದೋ ಗಾವೋ ದೋಗ್ಧಾ ಗೋಪಾಲನಂದನಃ ।
ಪಾರ್ಥೋ ವತ್ಸಃ ಸುಧೀರ್ಭೋಕ್ತಾ ದುಗ್ಧಂ ಗೀತಾಮೃತಂ ಮಹತ್ ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
सर्वोपनिषदो गावो दोग्धा गोपालनन्दनः ।
पार्थो वत्सः सुधीर्भोक्ता दुग्धं गीतामृतं महत् ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)
sarvopaniṣado gāvo dogdhā gopālanandanaḥ |
pārtho vatsaḥ sudhīrbhoktā dugdhaṃ gītāmṛtaṃ mahat ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಸರ್ವ ಉಪನಿಷದಃ (सर्व उपनिषदः, sarva upaniṣadaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲ ಉಪನಿಷತ್ತುಗಳು (all the Upanishads)
- ಗಾವಃ (गावः, gāvaḥ) = ಹಸುಗಳು (are the cows)
- ದೋಗ್ಧಾ (दोग्धा, dogdhā) = ಹಾಲು ಕರೆಯುವವನು (the milker)
- ಗೋಪಾಲನಂದನಃ (गोपालनन्दनः, gopālanandanaḥ) = ಗೋಪಾಲನ ಮಗನಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ (is Krishna, son of the cowherd)
- ಪಾರ್ಥಃ ವತ್ಸಃ (पार्थः वत्सः, pārthaḥ vatsaḥ) = ಅರ್ಜುನನೇ ಕರು (Arjuna is the calf)
- ಸುಧೀಃ ಭೋಕ್ತಾ (सुधीः भोक्ता, sudhīḥ bhoktā) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯುಳ್ಳವನು ಅದನ್ನು ಸವಿಯುವವನು (the wise one is the one who drinks)
- ದುಗ್ಧಮ್ (दुग्धम्, dugdham) = ಕರೆದ ಹಾಲು (the milk)
- ಗೀತಾಮೃತಂ ಮಹತ್ (गीतामृतं महत्, gītāmṛtaṃ mahat) = ಮಹತ್ತಾದ ಗೀತೆಯೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತ (is the great nectar of the Gita)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಎಲ್ಲ ಉಪನಿಷತ್ತುಗಳೂ ಹಸುಗಳು. ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಹಾಲು ಕರೆಯುವವನು ಗೋಪಾಲನ ಮಗನಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ. ಅರ್ಜುನನೇ ಕರು. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯುಳ್ಳವರು ಆ ಹಾಲನ್ನು ಸವಿಯುವವರು. ಹಾಗೆ ಕರೆದ ಹಾಲೇ ಮಹತ್ತಾದ ಗೀತೆಯೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
All the Upanishads are the cows, and the one who milks them is Krishna, the son of the cowherd. Arjuna is the calf, the wise are those who drink, and the milk so drawn is the great nectar of the Gita.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಗೀತಾ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಒಂಬತ್ತು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಸ್ತುತಿ, ಇದು ಅದರ ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ. ಈ ಧ್ಯಾನವನ್ನು ಮಧುಸೂದನ ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯವರು ರಚಿಸಿದರು ಎಂಬ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಇದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಕರ್ತೃತ್ವದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಮ್ಮತವಿಲ್ಲ.
The Gita Dhyanam is a hymn of nine verses and this is its fourth. It is sometimes attributed to Madhusudana Sarasvati, but scholars do not agree on its authorship.
ಹಸು ಕರುವಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಾಲು ಇಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಆ ಹಾಲು ಮನೆಯವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಗೀತೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು ಎಂಬುದು ಈ ಉಪಮೆಯ ಸೊಗಸು.
A cow lets down her milk for her calf, yet the milk feeds the whole household. In the same way the Gita, spoken for Arjuna, reached everyone: this is the beauty of the image.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಹಳೆಯ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು ದೊಡ್ಡದಾಗಿ, ಕಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾರವನ್ನು ಕರೆದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಹಾಲಿನಂತೆ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಒಳಗಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಗುರುವಿನ ಕೆಲಸವೂ ಅದೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
The old scriptures can seem vast and difficult. When someone draws out their essence and places it in our hands, it goes down as easily as milk. The verse suggests that this is the work of a good teacher too.
