The Sharada Mahima Stava is a hymn of four verses. It calls Sharada a glory and bows to that glory. Mahima means greatness or majesty.

The last line of all four verses is namo mahimne, which means salutation to that glory. We give it in full once, then briefly.

About this hymn

The source names no author, so we do not say who composed it.

The names that appear in the text are Shringadri, Tunga, Kanada and Indra. We draw no conclusion about date or author from them.

In all four verses the describing words share one grammatical case and pile up their qualities on the closing word mahimne. Each quality arrives like one more ornament.

For life today

We cross a stream by stepping on one stone after another, and each stone leads to the next. Each quality in this hymn works that way, carrying the mind to the far bank of the closing salutation.
