ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನದ ದಿನ ರಾಖಿ ಕಟ್ಟುವಾಗ ಹೇಳುವ ಮಂತ್ರ ಇದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಖಿಯನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷೆ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆದು, ಅದು ಬಲಿ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿಯನ್ನೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿದಷ್ಟೇ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾದದ್ದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಕೇವಲ ಅಣ್ಣ ತಂಗಿಯರ ನಡುವೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ರಕ್ಷೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರ ಹೇಳುವ ರೂಢಿ ಇದೆ.

ಯೇನ ಬದ್ಧೋ ಬಲಿ ರಾಜಾ ದಾನವೇಂದ್ರೋ ಮಹಾಬಲಃ ।
ತೇನ ತ್ವಾಮ್ ಅನುಬಧ್ನಾಮಿ ರಕ್ಷೇ ಮಾ ಚಲ ಮಾ ಚಲ ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯೇನ ಬದ್ಧಃ (येन बद्धः, yena baddhaḥ) = ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ಪಟ್ಟನೋ (by which was bound)
- ಬಲಿ ರಾಜಾ ದಾನವೇಂದ್ರಃ ಮಹಾಬಲಃ (बलि राजा दानवेन्द्रः महाबलः, bali rājā dānavendraḥ mahābalaḥ) = ಮಹಾಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾದ ದಾನವರ ರಾಜ ಬಲಿ (the mighty king Bali, lord of the demons)
- ತೇನ ತ್ವಾಮ್ ಅನುಬಧ್ನಾಮಿ (तेन त्वाम् अनुबध्नामि, tena tvām anubadhnāmi) = ಅದೇ ರಕ್ಷೆಯಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತೇನೆ (with that same protective thread I bind you)
- ರಕ್ಷೇ ಮಾ ಚಲ ಮಾ ಚಲ (रक्षे मा चल मा चल, rakṣe mā cala mā cala) = ಓ ರಕ್ಷೆಯೇ, ಚಲಿಸಬೇಡ, ಚಲಿಸಬೇಡ (O protective thread, do not slip, do not slip)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಮಹಾಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾದ ದಾನವರಾಜ ಬಲಿಯನ್ನೇ ಯಾವ ರಕ್ಷೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿತೋ, ಅದೇ ರಕ್ಷೆಯಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಓ ರಕ್ಷೆಯೇ, ಜಾರಬೇಡ, ಜಾರಬೇಡ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
With the same protective thread that once bound the mighty demon king Bali, I now bind you. O thread of protection, do not slip away, do not slip away.

ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನದ ದಿನದಂದೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಉಪಾಕರ್ಮ, ಯಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಹೊರಡುವಾಗ ಮುಂತಾದ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ರಕ್ಷೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವಾಗ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
This mantra is used not only on Rakshabandhan but also whenever a protective thread is tied, such as at upakarma or before setting out on a journey.
