ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದಂ ಪರಮಸುಖದಂ: ಸದ್ಗುರುವಿನ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ

ಗುರುವನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕಲಿಸುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮತತ್ತ್ವದ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಗುರುಪೂಜೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸದ್ಗುರು ಎಂದರೆ ಸುಖ, ಜ್ಞಾನ, ದ್ವಂದ್ವಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಗಳ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ, ಇಂಥ ಗುಣಗಳ ಮೊತ್ತವೆಂದು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದಂ ಪರಮಸುಖದಂ ಕೇವಲಂ ಜ್ಞಾನಮೂರ್ತಿಮ್ ।
ದ್ವಂದ್ವಾತೀತಂ ಗಗನಸದೃಶಂ ತತ್ತ್ವಮಸ್ಯಾದಿಲಕ್ಷ್ಯಮ್ ॥

ಏಕಂ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ವಿಮಲಮಚಲಂ ಸರ್ವಧೀಸಾಕ್ಷಿಭೂತಂ ।
ಭಾವಾತೀತಂ ತ್ರಿಗುಣರಹಿತಂ ಸದ್ಗುರುಂ ತಂ ನಮಾಮಿ ॥

ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिम् ।
द्वन्द्वातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्त्वमस्यादिलक्ष्यम् ॥

एकं नित्यं विमलमचलं सर्वधीसाक्षिभूतं ।
भावातीतं त्रिगुणरहितं सद्गुरुं तं नमामि ॥

ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)

brahmānandaṃ paramasukhadaṃ kevalaṃ jñānamūrtim |
dvandvātītaṃ gaganasadṛśaṃ tattvamasyādilakṣyam ||

ekaṃ nityaṃ vimalamacalaṃ sarvadhīsākṣibhūtaṃ |
bhāvātītaṃ triguṇarahitaṃ sadguruṃ taṃ namāmi ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದಮ್ (ब्रह्मानन्दम्, brahmānandam) = ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದ ಸ್ವರೂಪನಾದವನು (the one whose form is the bliss of Brahman)
ಪರಮಸುಖದಮ್ (परमसुखदम्, paramasukhadam) = ಪರಮ ಸುಖವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವವನು (the giver of supreme happiness)
ಕೇವಲಮ್ (केवलम्, kevalam) = ಬೆರೆಯದ, ಶುದ್ಧ (pure, unmixed)
ಜ್ಞಾನಮೂರ್ತಿಮ್ (ज्ञानमूर्तिम्, jñānamūrtim) = ಜ್ಞಾನವೇ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದವನು (the one whose very form is knowledge)
ದ್ವಂದ್ವಾತೀತಮ್ (द्वन्द्वातीतम्, dvandvātītam) = ಸುಖ-ದುಃಖ ಮುಂತಾದ ಜೋಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದವನು (one beyond pairs such as pleasure and pain)
ಗಗನಸದೃಶಮ್ (गगनसदृशम्, gaganasadṛśam) = ಆಕಾಶದಂತೆ ಇರುವವನು (one like the sky)
ತತ್ತ್ವಮಸಿ ಆದಿಲಕ್ಷ್ಯಮ್ (तत्त्वमसि आदिलक्ष्यम्, tattvamasi ādilakṣyam) = ತತ್ತ್ವಮಸಿ ಮುಂತಾದ ಮಹಾವಾಕ್ಯಗಳ ಗುರಿಯಾದವನು (the one pointed to by great sayings such as tattvamasi)
ಏಕಮ್ (एकम्, ekam) = ಒಂದೇ ಆದ (the one alone)
ನಿತ್ಯಮ್ (नित्यम्, nityam) = ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾದ (eternal)
ವಿಮಲಮ್ (विमलम्, vimalam) = ಕಲ್ಮಶವಿಲ್ಲದ (stainless)
ಅಚಲಮ್ (अचलम्, acalam) = ಚಲಿಸದ (unmoving)
ಸರ್ವಧೀಸಾಕ್ಷಿಭೂತಮ್ (सर्वधीसाक्षिभूतम्, sarvadhīsākṣibhūtam) = ಎಲ್ಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿರುವವನು (the witness of every intellect)
ಭಾವಾತೀತಮ್ (भावातीतम्, bhāvātītam) = ಭಾವನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದವನು (one beyond mental states)
ತ್ರಿಗುಣರಹಿತಮ್ (त्रिगुणरहितम्, triguṇarahitam) = ಸತ್ವ ರಜ ತಮ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳಿಲ್ಲದವನು (free of the three qualities, sattva, rajas and tamas)
ಸದ್ಗುರುಮ್ ತಮ್ ನಮಾಮಿ (सद्गुरुम् तम् नमामि, sadgurum tam namāmi) = ಆ ಸದ್ಗುರುವಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ (I bow to that true Guru)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದ ಸ್ವರೂಪನಾದ, ಪರಮ ಸುಖ ಕೊಡುವ, ಕೇವಲ ಜ್ಞಾನಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದ, ಸುಖದುಃಖಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ, ಆಕಾಶದಂತಿರುವ, ತತ್ತ್ವಮಸಿ ಎಂಬ ಮಹಾವಾಕ್ಯದ ಗುರಿಯಾದ, ಒಂದೇ ಆದ, ಶಾಶ್ವತ, ನಿರ್ಮಲ, ಅಚಲ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾದ, ಭಾವನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ ಆ ಸದ್ಗುರುವಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

I bow to that true Guru who is the very form of the bliss of Brahman, the giver of supreme happiness, pure knowledge itself, beyond pleasure and pain, like the sky, the one pointed to by the great saying tattvamasi, one alone, eternal, stainless, unmoving, the witness of every intellect, and beyond feeling and the three qualities of nature.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಗುರುಗೀತೆಯ ಅನೇಕ ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಗಳ ಮುಂದೆ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಶ್ಲೋಕವಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ತೃ ಯಾರೆಂದು ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿಲ್ಲ.

This verse is prefixed as a dhyana shloka to many printed editions of the Guru Gita. No text names its author with certainty.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರು ಎಂದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾಣುವ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮತತ್ತ್ವ ಎಂದೇ ಅರ್ಥ. ಅದ್ವೈತ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಗುರುಭಾವನೆಗೆ ಇದು ಹತ್ತಿರ.

The Guru here is not merely a person but the reality of Brahman seen through that person. This is close to how the Advaita tradition understands the Guru.

This verse teaches us to see the Guru not merely as someone who gives information, but as a light for our inner confusion.
