ಗವಾದೀನಾಂ ಪಯೋಽನ್ಯೇದ್ಯುಃ: ಹಾಲು ಹೆಪ್ಪಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಕ್ಷೀರಸಾಗರ ಇಲ್ಲ

ರಾತ್ರಿ ಹಾಲಿಗೆ ಹೆಪ್ಪು ಹಾಕಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ಇಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಅದು ಮೊಸರು. ಬೇಸಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತೂ ಬೇಕಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಷೀರಸಮುದ್ರದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಗವಾದೀನಾಂ ಪಯೋಽನ್ಯೇದ್ಯುಃ ಸದ್ಯೋ ವಾ ಜಾಯತೇ ದಧಿ ।
ಕ್ಷೀರೋದಧೇಸ್ತು ನಾದ್ಯಾಪಿ ಮಹತಾಂ ವಿಕೃತಿಃ ಕುತಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

गवादीनां पयोऽन्येद्युः सद्यो वा जायते दधि ।
क्षीरोदधेस्तु नाद्यापि महतां विकृतिः कुतः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

gavādīnāṃ payo’nyedyuḥ sadyo vā jāyate dadhi |
kṣīrodadhestu nādyāpi mahatāṃ vikṛtiḥ kutaḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಗವಾದೀನಾಮ್ (गवादीनाम्, gavādīnām) = ಹಸು ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳ (of cows and the rest)
ಪಯಃ (पयः, payaḥ) = ಹಾಲು (the milk)
ಅನ್ಯೇದ್ಯುಃ (अन्येद्युः, anyedyuḥ) = ಮರುದಿನ (on the next day)
ಸದ್ಯಃ (सद्यः, sadyaḥ) = ಅದೇ ದಿನ (the same day)
ವಾ (वा, vā) = ಅಥವಾ (or)
ಜಾಯತೇ (जायते, jāyate) = ಆಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ (becomes)
ದಧಿ (दधि, dadhi) = ಮೊಸರು (curd)
ಕ್ಷೀರೋದಧೇಃ (क्षीरोदधेः, kṣīrodadheḥ) = ಕ್ಷೀರಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ (for the ocean of milk)
ತು (तु, tu) = ಆದರೆ (but)
ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲ (not)
ಅದ್ಯಾಪಿ (अद्यापि, adyāpi) = ಇಂದಿಗೂ (even today)
ಮಹತಾಮ್ (महताम्, mahatām) = ದೊಡ್ಡವರಲ್ಲಿ (in the great)
ವಿಕೃತಿಃ (विकृतिः, vikṛtiḥ) = ಬದಲಾವಣೆ (alteration)
ಕುತಃ (कुतः, kutaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ (from where)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಹಸು ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಹಾಲು ಮರುದಿನ, ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಅದೇ ದಿನ, ಮೊಸರಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕ್ಷೀರಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅದು ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ. ದೊಡ್ಡವರಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬರಬೇಕು.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The milk of cows and the like turns to curd the next day, or the same day. To the ocean of milk that has not happened even now. Where would an alteration in the great come from?

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ವಿಕೃತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಜಾಣ್ಮೆಯನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಹಾಲಿನಿಂದ ಮೊಸರಾಗುವುದನ್ನೂ ವಿಕೃತಿ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಗುಣ ಕೆಡುವುದನ್ನೂ ವಿಕೃತಿ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಂದೇ ಪದ ಎರಡೂ ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Note the double duty of the word vikriti. Milk turning to curd is a vikriti, and so is a character going bad. One word ties the two lines together.

ಗವಾದೀನಾಂ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಆದಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಇದೆ: ಹಸು ಮೊದಲಾದವು, ಅಂದರೆ ಎಣಿಸಿ ಹೇಳುವ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಗುಂಪು. ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಹೆಸರಿಲ್ಲದ ಹಿಂಡು, ಇನ್ನೊಂದೆಡೆ ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಷೀರಸಮುದ್ರ. ಆ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲೇ ಅರ್ಧ ಅರ್ಥ ಇದೆ.

Gavadinam carries adi, cows and so on: a lot that needs no counting. On one side a nameless herd, on the other a single ocean of milk. Half of what the verse says lies in that difference of number.

ಅದ್ಯಾಪಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ. ಒಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಅಳತೆಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ಕಾಲದ ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟದ್ದು ಈ ಒಂದು ಪದದ ಕೆಲಸ.

Adyapi means right up to today. This one word sets the measure of all time beside the measure of a single night.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸಣ್ಣ ಪಾತ್ರೆ ಬೇಗ ಹುಳಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಎಷ್ಟು ಬೇಗ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಅವನ ಒಳಗಿನ ಆಳವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದು ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಗೆ, ಒಂದು ಅಪಮಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾರು ತಕ್ಷಣ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು.

A small vessel sours quickly. How fast a person turns says something about the depth in them. It is enough to watch who changes at once upon one word of praise or one slight.

ಇದನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಯವರನ್ನು ಅಳೆಯುವ ಅಳತೆಗೋಲಾಗಿ ಬಳಸುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ತನ್ನನ್ನೇ ಅಳೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸುವುದು ಒಳಿತು. ಆಳ ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದು ನಿಧಾನ, ಆದರೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

This is better used to measure oneself than to measure others. Depth grows slowly, but it does grow.
