ಅಪಕುರ್ವನ್ನಪಿ ಪ್ರಾಯಃ: ಸುಡುವ ಬೆಂಕಿಗೂ ನೀರು

ನಮಗೆ ತೊಂದರೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟವನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಕೇಳಿ ಬಂದರೆ ಏನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ಸುಲಭದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ತಳದ ಬೆಂಕಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರದಿಂದ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಅಪಕುರ್ವನ್ನಪಿ ಪ್ರಾಯಃ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನೋತಿ ಮಹತಃ ಫಲಮ್ ।
ಔರ್ವಂ ದಹನ್ತಮೇವಾಮ್ಭಃ ಸಂತರ್ಪಯತಿ ಸಾಗರಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

अपकुर्वन्नपि प्रायः प्राप्नोति महतः फलम् ।
और्वं दहन्तमेवाम्भः संतर्पयति सागरः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

apakurvannapi prāyaḥ prāpnoti mahataḥ phalam |
aurvaṃ dahantamevāmbhaḥ saṃtarpayati sāgaraḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅಪಕುರ್ವನ್ (अपकुर्वन्, apakurvan) = ಕೇಡು ಮಾಡುವವನು (one who does injury)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಕೂಡ (even)
ಪ್ರಾಯಃ (प्रायः, prāyaḥ) = ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ (as a rule)
ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನೋತಿ (प्राप्नोति, prāpnoti) = ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ (obtains)
ಮಹತಃ (महतः, mahataḥ) = ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಂದ (from the great)
ಫಲಮ್ (फलम्, phalam) = ಫಲವನ್ನು (fruit)
ಔರ್ವಮ್ (और्वम्, aurvam) = ಔರ್ವ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು (the Aurva fire)
ದಹನ್ತಮ್ (दहन्तम्, dahantam) = ಸುಡುತ್ತಿರುವ (burning)
ಏವ (एव, eva) = ಆದರೂ (even so)
ಅಮ್ಭಃ (अम्भः, ambhaḥ) = ನೀರನ್ನು (water)
ಸಂತರ್ಪಯತಿ (संतर्पयति, saṃtarpayati) = ತೃಪ್ತಿಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (satisfies)
ಸಾಗರಃ (सागरः, sāgaraḥ) = ಕಡಲು (the ocean)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕೇಡು ಮಾಡುವವನಿಗೂ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಂದ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಫಲವೇ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ತನ್ನನ್ನೇ ಸುಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಔರ್ವ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಕಡಲು ತನ್ನ ನೀರಿನಿಂದ ತೃಪ್ತಿಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even one who does harm generally receives good fruit from the great. The ocean satisfies with its own water the very Aurva fire that is burning it.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಔರ್ವ ಎಂಬುದು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ತಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಉರಿಯುವ ಬೆಂಕಿ. ಇದು ಔರ್ವ ಋಷಿಯ ಕೋಪದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಕಡಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡಲಾದ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಎಂದು ಪುರಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ವಡವಾಗ್ನಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರೂ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಇದೆ.

Aurva is the fire that burns at the bottom of the sea. In the Puranas it is well known as the fire born of the anger of the sage Aurva and set down in the ocean. It also goes by the name vadavagni.

ಸಂತರ್ಪಯತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಆರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನಲಿಲ್ಲ, ತೃಪ್ತಿಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದಿತು. ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ನಂದಿಸುವುದು ಬೇರೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವುದು ಬೇರೆ.

Note the choice of santarpayati. It does not say puts out, it says satisfies. Quenching a fire is one thing; giving it what it needs is another.

ಪ್ರಾಯಃ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ. ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಎನ್ನಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದಿತು.

The word prayah is a small honesty here. It does not say always; it says for the most part.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ದೂರು ಹೇಳಿದವರಿಗೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವುದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಂಗತಿಯಲ್ಲ. ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವವನ ಕೆಲಸ ಮೊದಲಿನಂತೆಯೇ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಮನಸ್ಸೂ ಕೆಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

To hand over the information someone needs even after they have complained about you is no small thing. The work of the one who does it goes on as before, and the mind is not spoiled either.

ಇದು ಮೋಸವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಮಾತಲ್ಲ. ಕಡಲು ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಕಡಲಾಗಿಯೇ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ. ತನ್ನ ಅಳತೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅದೇ ಉದಾರತೆ ಬರಿದಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

This is not a rule that one must put up with being cheated. The ocean carries the fire, but it remains the ocean. When your own measure is small, the same generosity runs dry.
