ಗುಣಗ್ರಾಮಾವಿಸಂವಾದಿ ನಾಮಾಪಿ: ಹೆಸರೇ ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ

ಕೆಲವು ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಬರೀ ಗುರುತಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಗುಣವನ್ನೇ ಒಳಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಪರಿಚಿತ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ಅದೇ ಮಾತನ್ನು ದೊಡ್ಡವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಗುಣಗ್ರಾಮಾವಿಸಂವಾದಿ ನಾಮಾಪಿ ಹಿ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್ ।
ಯಥಾ ಸುವರ್ಣಶ್ರೀಖಣ್ಡರತ್ನಾಕರಸುಧಾಕರಾಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

गुणग्रामाविसंवादि नामापि हि महात्मनाम् ।
यथा सुवर्णश्रीखण्डरत्नाकरसुधाकराः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

guṇagrāmāvisaṃvādi nāmāpi hi mahātmanām |
yathā suvarṇaśrīkhaṇḍaratnākarasudhākarāḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಗುಣಗ್ರಾಮ (गुणग्राम, guṇagrāma) = ಗುಣಗಳ ಗುಂಪಿಗೆ (with the whole mass of their virtues)
ಅವಿಸಂವಾದಿ (अविसंवादि, avisaṃvādi) = ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು (not at variance)
ನಾಮ (नाम, nāma) = ಹೆಸರು (the name)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಕೂಡ (even)
ಹಿ (हि, hi) = ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿ (indeed)
ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್ (महात्मनाम्, mahātmanām) = ಮಹಾತ್ಮರ (of great souls)
ಯಥಾ (यथा, yathā) = ಹೇಗೆಂದರೆ (as for example)
ಸುವರ್ಣ (सुवर्ण, suvarṇa) = ಸುವರ್ಣ, ಅಂದರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬಣ್ಣ ಉಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ಚಿನ್ನ (suvarna, having a good colour, gold)
ಶ್ರೀಖಣ್ಡ (श्रीखण्ड, śrīkhaṇḍa) = ಶ್ರೀಖಂಡ, ಅಂದರೆ ಸಿರಿಯ ತುಂಡು, ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧ (srikhanda, a piece of splendour, sandalwood)
ರತ್ನಾಕರ (रत्नाकर, ratnākara) = ರತ್ನಾಕರ, ಅಂದರೆ ರತ್ನಗಳ ಗಣಿ, ಕಡಲು (ratnakara, the mine of jewels, the ocean)
ಸುಧಾಕರ (सुधाकर, sudhākara) = ಸುಧಾಕರ, ಅಂದರೆ ಅಮೃತವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವವನು, ಚಂದ್ರ (sudhakara, the maker of nectar, the moon)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮಹಾತ್ಮರ ಹೆಸರೂ ಅವರ ಗುಣಗಳ ಗುಂಪಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸುವರ್ಣ, ಶ್ರೀಖಂಡ, ರತ್ನಾಕರ, ಸುಧಾಕರ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even the name of great souls is in keeping with the whole mass of their virtues. One need only look at the names suvarna, srikhanda, ratnakara and sudhakara.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ನಾಲ್ಕೂ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಹೆಸರೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ವರ್ಣನೆ. ಚಿನ್ನಕ್ಕೆ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬಣ್ಣ ಉಳ್ಳದ್ದು. ಕಡಲಿಗೆ ರತ್ನಾಕರ ಎಂದರೆ ರತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು. ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿದರೆ ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಗುಣ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

None of the four is a mere name; each is a description. Gold is called suvarna, the thing of good colour. The sea is called ratnakara, the one that holds jewels inside. Open the name and the quality of the thing is there.

ಅವಿಸಂವಾದಿ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ವಿಸಂವಾದ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದು, ವಿರೋಧ. ಅವಿಸಂವಾದಿ ಎಂದರೆ ವಿರೋಧವಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು. ಹೆಸರು ಗುಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ಗುಣಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ.

Note avisamvadi. Visamvada is disagreement, being at odds. Avisamvadi is what is not at odds. Saying the name is not in contradiction with the virtues is finer than saying it matches them.

ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲು ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಒಂದೇ ಸಮಾಸ. ನಾಲ್ಕು ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸದೆ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವು ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಂತೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆಗೇ ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಬೀಳುತ್ತವೆ.

The whole second line is a single compound. Because the four names are joined without a break, they fall on the ear at once, as one list.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು ಇಡುವುದು ಸುಲಭ. ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದು ಒಳಗೆ ಇದೆಯೇ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುವುದೇ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕೆಲಸ. ಸೇವೆ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಸಾಲದು.

It is easy to give an institution a grand name. The work of this verse is to ask whether what is in the name is inside as well. It is not enough for the word service to appear on the board.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ತನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ಹೇಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಯಾರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಹೆಸರು ಏನನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅವರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ.

Seen from the other side, nobody chooses what their own name is. What that name brings to mind is the only part in their hands.
