ಹಣೆಯ ಕಸ್ತೂರಿ ತಿಲಕದಿಂದ ಕೊರಳಿನ ಮುತ್ತಿನ ಹಾರದವರೆಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಅಲಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ವರ್ಣಿಸುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಕೃಷ್ಣಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿಯಂದು ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಭಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಆಗಾಗ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಗೋಪಿಯರ ನಡುವೆ ನಿಂತು ಮೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗೋಪಾಲಚೂಡಾಮಣಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ಗೊಲ್ಲರ ಶಿರೋಮಣಿ ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕಸ್ತೂರೀತಿಲಕಂ ಲಲಾಟಫಲಕೇ ವಕ್ಷಃಸ್ಥಲೇ ಕೌಸ್ತುಭಂ
ನಾಸಾಗ್ರೇ ನವಮೌಕ್ತಿಕಂ ಕರತಲೇ ವೇಣುಂ ಕರೇ ಕಂಕಣಮ್ ।
ಸರ್ವಾಂಗೇ ಹರಿಚಂದನಂ ಸುಲಲಿತಂ ಕಂಠೇ ಚ ಮುಕ್ತಾವಲೀ
ಗೋಪಸ್ತ್ರೀಪರಿವೇಷ್ಟಿತೋ ವಿಜಯತೇ ಗೋಪಾಲಚೂಡಾಮಣಿಃ ॥

कस्तूरीतिलकं ललाटफलके वक्षःस्थले कौस्तुभं
नासाग्रे नवमौक्तिकं करतले वेणुं करे कङ्कणम् ।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಕಸ್ತೂರೀತಿಲಕಮ್ (कस्तूरीतिलकम्, kastūrītilakam) = ಕಸ್ತೂರಿಯ ತಿಲಕ (a tilaka of musk)
- ಲಲಾಟಫಲಕೇ (ललाटफलके, lalāṭaphalake) = ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ (on the broad forehead)
- ವಕ್ಷಃಸ್ಥಲೇ ಕೌಸ್ತುಭಮ್ (वक्षःस्थले कौस्तुभम्, vakṣaḥsthale kaustubham) = ಎದೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೌಸ್ತುಭ ಮಣಿ (the Kaustubha gem on the chest)
- ನಾಸಾಗ್ರೇ ನವಮೌಕ್ತಿಕಮ್ (नासाग्रे नवमौक्तिकम्, nāsāgre navamauktikam) = ಮೂಗಿನ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಮುತ್ತು (a fresh pearl at the tip of the nose)
- ಕರತಲೇ ವೇಣುಮ್ (करतले वेणुम्, karatale veṇum) = ಅಂಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಳಲು (the flute in the palm)
- ಕರೇ ಕಂಕಣಮ್ (करे कङ्कणम्, kare kaṅkaṇam) = ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಗ (a bangle on the wrist)
- ಸರ್ವಾಂಗೇ ಹರಿಚಂದನಮ್ (सर्वाङ्गे हरिचन्दनम्, sarvāṅge haricandanam) = ಮೈಯೆಲ್ಲ ಹರಿಚಂದನದ ಲೇಪನ (fragrant sandal paste all over the body)
- ಸುಲಲಿತಮ್ (सुललितम्, sulalitam) = ಬಹಳ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ (most gracefully)
- ಕಂಠೇ ಚ ಮುಕ್ತಾವಲೀ (कण्ठे च मुक्तावली, kaṇṭhe ca muktāvalī) = ಕೊರಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುತ್ತಿನ ಹಾರ (a string of pearls at the throat)
- ಗೋಪಸ್ತ್ರೀಪರಿವೇಷ್ಟಿತಃ (गोपस्त्रीपरिवेष्टितः, gopastrīpariveṣṭitaḥ) = ಗೋಪಿಯರಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದವನು (surrounded by the gopis)
- ವಿಜಯತೇ (विजयते, vijayate) = ಮೆರೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ (shines supreme)
- ಗೋಪಾಲಚೂಡಾಮಣಿಃ (गोपालचूडामणिः, gopālacūḍāmaṇiḥ) = ಗೊಲ್ಲರ ಶಿರೋಮಣಿ (the crest jewel of the cowherds)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಸ್ತೂರಿಯ ತಿಲಕ, ಎದೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೌಸ್ತುಭ ಮಣಿ, ಮೂಗಿನ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಮುತ್ತು, ಅಂಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಳಲು, ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಗ, ಮೈಯೆಲ್ಲ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಹರಿಚಂದನ, ಕೊರಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುತ್ತಿನ ಹಾರ. ಹೀಗೆ ಅಲಂಕೃತನಾಗಿ ಗೋಪಿಯರಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದು ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಗೊಲ್ಲರ ಶಿರೋಮಣಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಮೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
A tilaka of musk on his forehead, the Kaustubha gem on his chest, a fresh pearl at the tip of his nose, the flute in his palm, a bangle on his wrist, sandal paste gracefully spread over his body and a string of pearls at his throat: so adorned and surrounded by the gopis, Krishna, the crest jewel of the cowherds, shines supreme.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಇದರ ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ಶಾರ್ದೂಲವಿಕ್ರೀಡಿತ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಲೀಲಾಶುಕರ (ಬಿಲ್ವಮಂಗಲ) ಹೆಸರಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜೋಡಿಸುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಖಚಿತ ಆಧಾರ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
The metre is shardulavikridita. Some associate the verse with Lilashuka (Bilvamangala), but there is no firm evidence for this.
ಮೂರನೆಯ ಸಾಲಿಗೆ ಸರ್ವಾಂಗೇ ಹರಿಚಂದನಂ ಚ ಕಲಯನ್ ಕಂಠೇ ಚ ಮುಕ್ತಾವಲಿಂ ಎಂಬ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹಾಡಲಾಗುವ ಸುಲಲಿತಂ ಪಾಠವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
The third line is also found as sarvange harichandanam cha kalayan kanthe cha muktavalim. We give the more commonly sung reading with sulalitam.

ತಾಯಿ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಸಿಂಗರಿಸಿ ತಲೆಯಿಂದ ಕಾಲಿನವರೆಗೆ ನೋಡಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವಂತೆ, ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅಲಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವುದೂ ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಇದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
As a mother who has dressed her child looks at him from head to foot and delights, this verse shows the ornaments one by one. It shows that looking closely and lovingly is itself a kind of prayer.
