ಬಸವ ಜಯಂತಿಯು ಹನ್ನೆರಡನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದ ಲಿಂಗಾಯತ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಶರಣರಾದ ಬಸವಣ್ಣನವರ ಜನ್ಮದಿನ. ಇದನ್ನು ಅಕ್ಷಯ ತೃತೀಯದ ದಿನವಾದ ವೈಶಾಖ ಶುಕ್ಲ ತದಿಗೆಯಂದು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಆಚರಿಸುವ ರೀತಿ
ಲಿಂಗಾಯತರ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಠಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಸವಣ್ಣನವರ ಚಿತ್ರಪಟವನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ವಚನಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿ, ಇಷ್ಟಲಿಂಗ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ; ಅನೇಕರು ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮ ಮತ್ತು ಬಸವನ ಬಾಗೇವಾಡಿಗೆ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ರಜಾದಿನವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ರಾಜ್ಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಅವರ ಬದುಕು ಮತ್ತು ಬೋಧನೆಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ.
ಕಥೆ
ಬಸವಣ್ಣನವರು ಹನ್ನೆರಡನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಸವನ ಬಾಗೇವಾಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಂತೆ ಅಕ್ಷಯ ತೃತೀಯದಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದರು; ನಂತರ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣದ ಬಿಜ್ಜಳನ ಆಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಅನುಭವ ಮಂಟಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಜಾತಿಯ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಗಂಡು ಸಾಧಕರನ್ನು ಒಂದುಗೂಡಿಸಿದರು, ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ಬದಲಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟಲಿಂಗ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಸರಳ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ವಚನಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಿಂಗೈಕ್ಯರಾದರು.
ಅನುದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ದಿನ
ವೈಶಾಖ ಮಾಸದ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಮೂರನೆಯ ತಿಥಿಯಾದ ವೈಶಾಖ ಶುಕ್ಲ ತದಿಗೆಯು ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಅನುದಿನ ಆ್ಯಪ್ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಅಕ್ಷಯ ತೃತೀಯದ ದಿನವೇ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಆಚರಣೆ. ಅನುದಿನ ಇದನ್ನು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾರತದ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಇತರ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ ಹಬ್ಬಗಳನ್ನೂ ತೋರಿಸಿ’ ಎಂಬ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯನ್ನು ಆನ್ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವೀರಶೈವ / ಲಿಂಗಾಯತ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಓದುಗರು ಎಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು.

How it is kept
Lingayat homes and mathas decorate the picture of Basavanna, sing his vachanas and worship the ishtalinga. Processions carry his image through towns, and many go to Kudalasangama and to Basavana Bagewadi. It is a holiday in Karnataka, and talks on his life and teaching are held across the state.
The story
Basavanna was born in the twelfth century at Basavana Bagewadi, on Akshaya Tritiya by tradition, and served as a minister in the court of Bijjala at Kalyana. He gathered seekers of every caste, men and women, at the Anubhava Mantapa, taught the worship of the linga in place of temple ritual, and wrote vachanas in plain Kannada. He merged with the Lord at Kudalasangama.
Which day Anudina gives
Anudina gives the day on which Vaishakha shukla tritiya, the third tithi of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha, is running at sunrise. It falls on the same day as Akshaya Tritiya.
It is a Karnataka observance. Anudina shows it under the South Indian custom, and under the North Indian custom only when “Show festivals of other regions too” is turned on. A reader who ticks the Veerashaiva / Lingayat lineage in the Tradition sheet sees it too, wherever they are.
