(Drik Panchang, SmartPuja, Outlook).

Chaitra Navaratri is the nine nights of the Goddess in spring, beginning on the first day of bright Chaitra, the day of Yugadi and Gudi Padwa.
How it is kept
On the first morning a kalasha of water is set up with mango leaves and a coconut, and barley or wheat is sown in a bed of earth around it (ghatasthapana). For nine days the nine forms of Durga are worshipped, one each day, with the Durga Saptashati or other hymns. Many fast or eat once a day. Young girls are worshipped as the Devi on Ashtami or Navami, and the ninth day is Rama Navami.
The story
Chaitra Navaratri, the Navaratri of spring, begins on the first day of the lunar year, the same day as Yugadi and Gudi Padwa. Of the four Navaratris of the year, this and the Sharad Navaratri of autumn are kept by households; the Gupta Navaratris of Magha and Ashadha are kept quietly by sadhakas. In the North it is one of the great festivals of the Devi.
Which day Anudina gives
Anudina gives the day on which Chaitra shukla pratipada, the first tithi of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, is running at sunrise.
It is a North Indian observance. Anudina shows it under the North Indian custom, and under the South Indian custom only when “Show festivals of other regions too” is turned on. A reader who ticks the Shakta lineage in the Tradition sheet sees it too, wherever they are.
The rule was compared with 30 March 2025, 19 March 2026 and 7 April 2027 (Drik Panchang, SmartPuja, Outlook).
