ಸಕೃತ್ಕನ್ದುಕಪಾತೇನ: ಚೆಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆ

ಒಂದೇ ಎತ್ತರದಿಂದ ಎರಡು ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿ. ಒಂದು ಪುಟಿದು ಕೈಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ, ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಚಪ್ಪಟೆಯಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೀಳುವುದು ಒಂದೇ, ಬಿದ್ದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಥೆ ಬೇರೆ.

ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಚೆಂಡು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಅದರ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆಯನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟು ನೋಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ತಥಾ ತ್ವನಾರ್ಯಃ ಪತತಿ ಮೃತ್ಪಿಣ್ಡಪತನಂ ಯಥಾ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

सकृत्कन्दुकपातेनोत्पतत्यार्यः पतन्नपि ।
तथा त्वनार्यः पतति मृत्पिण्डपतनं यथा ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

sakṛtkandukapātenotpatatyāryaḥ patannapi |
tathā tvanāryaḥ patati mṛtpiṇḍapatanaṃ yathā ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸಕೃತ್ (सकृत्, sakṛt) = ಒಂದು ಸಲದ (of a single)
ಕನ್ದುಕಪಾತೇನ (कन्दुकपातेन, kandukapātena) = ಚೆಂಡು ಬೀಳುವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (in the manner of a ball’s fall)
ಉತ್ಪತತಿ (उत्पतति, utpatati) = ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಏಳುತ್ತಾನೆ (springs up)
ಆರ್ಯಃ (आर्यः, āryaḥ) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವನು (the noble man)
ಪತನ್ (पतन्, patan) = ಬೀಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ (though falling)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಕೂಡ (even)
ತಥಾ (तथा, tathā) = ಹಾಗೆ (thus)
ತು (तु, tu) = ಆದರೆ (but)
ಅನಾರ್ಯಃ (अनार्यः, anāryaḥ) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವನಲ್ಲದವನು (the ignoble man)
ಪತತಿ (पतति, patati) = ಬೀಳುತ್ತಾನೆ (falls)
ಮೃತ್ಪಿಣ್ಡಪತನಮ್ (मृत्पिण्डपतनम्, mṛtpiṇḍapatanam) = ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆ ಬೀಳುವುದು (the fall of a lump of clay)
ಯಥಾ (यथा, yathā) = ಹೇಗೋ ಹಾಗೆ (just as)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಬಿದ್ದರೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಚೆಂಡು ಬಿದ್ದು ಏಳುವಂತೆ ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಏಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವನಲ್ಲದವನು ಬೀಳುವುದು ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆ ಬೀಳುವಂತೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The noble man, even as he falls, rises the way a ball rises from a single fall. The ignoble man falls the way a lump of clay falls.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪತನ್ ಅಪಿ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಪದ ಮುಖ್ಯ. ಬಿದ್ದ ಮೇಲೆ ಏಳುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ, ಬೀಳುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ಏಳುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಚೆಂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುವುದೇ ಏಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ.

The two words patan api carry the verse. It does not say he rises after falling but that he rises in the falling itself. In a ball the fall is the very cause of the rise.

ಮೃತ್ಪಿಣ್ಡ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಸಿ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆ. ಅದು ಬಿದ್ದರೆ ಪುಟಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆಕಾರವನ್ನೂ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡೂ ಉಂಡೆಯ ಆಕಾರದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದವು. ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ ಕಾಣುವುದು ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ.

Mritpinda is a lump of wet clay. It does not bounce, and it loses its shape as well. Both were round to look at. The difference shows only in the fall.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ತಪ್ಪಿದ, ಕೆಲಸ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ, ತಪ್ಪು ಮಾಡಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬಿದ್ದ ಗಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ನಿಜ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಸುಖದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಒಂದೇ ರೀತಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಾರೆ.

The moment of a failed exam, a lost job, a mistake found out, is the first time you learn something true about a person. In good times everyone looks much the same.

ಇದನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಯವರನ್ನು ಅಳೆಯುವ ಅಳತೆಪಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸುವುದು ಸುಲಭ. ಒಂದು ಸಲ ಬಿದ್ದು ಏಳದವನನ್ನು ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಉಂಡೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರೆ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕಟುವಾದ ಭಾಗವನ್ನಷ್ಟೇ ಎತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡಂತೆ. ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ತನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.

It is easy to use this as a measuring stick for other people. To call someone a lump of clay because he did not get up once is to take only the hard half of the verse. The stick is better held against oneself first.
