ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಗಲಿನ ಹದಿನೈದು ಮುಹೂರ್ತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟನೆಯದು. ಅದು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೂರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸುಮಾರು ನಲವತ್ತೆಂಟು ನಿಮಿಷ, ಅಂದರೆ ಸೂರ್ಯ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನರೇಖೆಯನ್ನು ದಾಟುವ ಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಮಾರು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತನಾಲ್ಕು ನಿಮಿಷ ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತನಾಲ್ಕು ನಿಮಿಷ ನಂತರದವರೆಗೆ.
ಇದನ್ನು ದಿನದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶುಭ ಮುಹೂರ್ತವೆಂದು ಎಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಉಪಯುಕ್ತ ಗುಣವಿದೆ: ಇದು ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನವೂ ತಪ್ಪದೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಆರಿಸಿದ ಸಮಯ ಸಿಗದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದ ಆಸರೆ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್. ಅದಕ್ಕೇ ಇದನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವ ಅರ್ಹತೆಯೂ ಬೇಡದ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಎಂದು ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಹೆಸರು
ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಜಯಶೀಲ ಅಥವಾ ಸೋಲಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು. ಇದು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೆಂಟನೆಯ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರದ ಹೆಸರೂ ಹೌದು, ಅಂದರೆ ವೇಗಾ ತಾರೆ; ಅದು ಉತ್ತರಾಷಾಢ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರವಣಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇಳರ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಿಂತ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೆಂಟು ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಹಳೆಯದು, ಮತ್ತು ವಿಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಕೈಬಿಟ್ಟದ್ದು ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ತನ್ನೇ. ಅದರ ಹೆಸರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಬಹುತೇಕ ಎಲ್ಲ ಆರಂಭಗಳಿಗೂ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ಯೋಗ್ಯವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ: ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಡುವುದು, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ತೆರೆಯುವುದು, ಒಪ್ಪಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಿ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರಂಭ, ಹೊಸ ಮನೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ. ಇದು ವಿಘ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕಿಳಿದವನಿಗೆ ಬೇರಾವ ಶುಭ ಅಂಶದ ಬೆಂಬಲವೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹಲವು ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ.
ಕೆಲವು ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಇದೇ ಮುಹೂರ್ತವನ್ನು ವಿಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿಯ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಂತೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಹಲವು ಜಯಂತಿಗಳ ಹೊತ್ತೂ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಒಂದು ವಿನಾಯಿತಿ
ಬುಧವಾರ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸದು ಎಂಬುದು ನಂಬಿಕೆ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಕಾರಣ ಇಷ್ಟು: ಬುಧವಾರದ ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಬೇರೊಂದು ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಬುಧವಾರದ ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ದುರ್ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಮುಹೂರ್ತವೇ, ಅಂದರೆ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ತೇ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಬುಧವಾರ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಅತಿ ಶುಭವಾದ ಹೊತ್ತೇ ಬಿಡಬೇಕಾದ ಹೊತ್ತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ: ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಅವಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇರೆಯದೇ ಪರಿಗಣನೆಗಳಿವೆ.
ಅನುದಿನ ಬುಧವಾರ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನವೂ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ತನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಮಯಗಳ ಪರದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ಅವಧಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ದುರ್ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವುದು ಕಂಡರೆ, ಅದು ಬುಧವಾರದ ವಿನಾಯಿತಿ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದರ್ಥ.
Abhijit is the eighth of the fifteen muhurtas of the daylight, which puts it exactly astride local noon. It lasts about forty-eight minutes, running from roughly twenty-four minutes before the sun’s meridian passage to twenty-four minutes after.
It is considered the most auspicious muhurta of the day, and it has the useful property of occurring every single day without fail. Where no carefully chosen time is available, Abhijit is the traditional fallback, which is why it is sometimes described as the muhurta that needs no other qualification.
The name
Abhijit means “victorious” or “unconquered”. It is also the name of a twenty-eighth nakshatra, the star Vega, which sits between Uttara Ashadha and Shravana. The twenty-eight-nakshatra scheme is older than the twenty-seven-nakshatra one, and Abhijit was the one dropped when the divisions were made equal. Its name survives here.
What it is used for
Abhijit is considered suitable for almost any beginning: setting out on a journey, opening a business, signing an agreement, beginning study, entering a new house. Tradition holds that it destroys obstacles, and several texts say that a person acting in Abhijit succeeds without the support of any other favourable factor.
It is also the muhurta prescribed for a number of specific observances. Ganesha Chaturthi puja is traditionally performed in the midday period that contains it, and several jayantis are similarly timed.
The exception
Abhijit is held not to apply on Wednesday. The reason usually given is that Wednesday’s own eighth muhurta already falls under a different governance, and indeed Wednesday’s single Durmuhurta is the eighth muhurta, which is to say Abhijit itself. So on Wednesdays the ordinarily most favourable window is the one to avoid.
A second caution: Abhijit is not used for south-facing journeys, which are governed by a separate set of considerations.
Anudina marks Abhijit on every day including Wednesday. When the Times screen shows a Durmuhurta sitting on the same period, that is Wednesday’s exception showing itself.
