ಧನಿನೋಽಪಿ ನಿರುನ್ಮಾದಾ: ಇದ್ದೂ ತಲೆಗೇರದವರು

ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಂಬಳ ಬರಲು ಶುರುವಾದ ಮೊದಲ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮಾತು, ನಡಿಗೆ, ಜನರನ್ನು ನೋಡುವ ಕ್ರಮ, ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬೇರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ.

ಆ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಆಗದೆ ಉಳಿದವರನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಎಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಆದರೂಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಲಾಗಿ ಇಟ್ಟು ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಒಂದೇ ತೀರ್ಮಾನ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಧನಿನೋಽಪಿ ನಿರುನ್ಮಾದಾ ಯುವಾನೋಽಪಿ ನ ಚಞ್ಚಲಾಃ ।
ಪ್ರಭವೋಽಪ್ಯಪ್ರಮತ್ತಾಸ್ತೇ ಮಹಾಮಹಿಮಶಾಲಿನಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

धनिनोऽपि निरुन्मादा युवानोऽपि न चञ्चलाः ।
प्रभवोऽप्यप्रमत्तास्ते महामहिमशालिनः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

dhanino’pi nirunmādā yuvāno’pi na cañcalāḥ |

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಧನಿನಃ (धनिनः, dhaninaḥ) = ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರು (the rich)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಆಗಿದ್ದೂ (even so)
ನಿರುನ್ಮಾದಾಃ (निरुन्मादाः, nirunmādāḥ) = ಉನ್ಮಾದ ಇಲ್ಲದವರು (without the mad rush of it)
ಯುವಾನಃ (युवानः, yuvānaḥ) = ತರುಣರು (the young)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಆಗಿದ್ದೂ (even so)
ನ (न, na) = ಅಲ್ಲ (not)
ಚಞ್ಚಲಾಃ (चञ्चलाः, cañcalāḥ) = ಚಂಚಲರು (restless)
ಪ್ರಭವಃ (प्रभवः, prabhavaḥ) = ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಉಳ್ಳವರು (those with power)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಆಗಿದ್ದೂ (even so)
ಅಪ್ರಮತ್ತಾಃ (अप्रमत्ताः, apramattāḥ) = ಎಚ್ಚರ ತಪ್ಪದವರು (never off their guard)
ತೇ (ते, te) = ಅವರೇ (they are the ones)
ಮಹಾಮಹಿಮಶಾಲಿನಃ (महामहिमशालिनः, mahāmahimaśālinaḥ) = ಮಹಾ ಮಹಿಮೆ ಉಳ್ಳವರು (who carry a great greatness)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಇದ್ದೂ ಅದರ ಉನ್ಮಾದ ಇಲ್ಲದವರು, ತರುಣರಾಗಿದ್ದೂ ಚಂಚಲರಲ್ಲದವರು, ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಇದ್ದೂ ಎಚ್ಚರ ತಪ್ಪದವರು. ಮಹಾ ಮಹಿಮೆ ಉಳ್ಳವರು ಇವರೇ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Rich, and not drunk on it. Young, and not restless. In power, and never off their guard. These are the men who carry a great greatness.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಉನ್ಮಾದ ಎಂದರೆ ತಲೆಗೇರುವುದು, ಅಮಲು. ನಿರುನ್ಮಾದ ಎಂದರೆ ಆ ಅಮಲು ಇಲ್ಲದವನು. ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟವನನ್ನು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಇದ್ದೂ ಅಮಲು ಏರದವನನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿದೆ.

Unmada is the rush that goes to the head. Nirunmada is the man without it. The verse does not praise the man who gave up wealth. It praises the man who has it and is not intoxicated by it.

ಪ್ರಮಾದ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಚ್ಚರ ಜಾರುವುದು. ಅಪ್ರಮತ್ತ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಚ್ಚರದ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲೇ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಇರುವವನಿಗೆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಜಾರಿಕೆಯೂ ಬೇರೆಯವರಿಗೆ ತಗುಲುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಒಳಗಿನ ಮಾತು.

Pramada is the slip in attention. Apramatta, its opposite, is the standard word for vigilance in the treatises. The unspoken point is that when a man has power, even a small lapse of his lands on other people.

ಮೂರೂ ಪಾದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ಒಂದು ಪದವೇ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕೀಲು. ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದು ಗುಣವಲ್ಲ, ಇದ್ದೂ ಬಾಗದಿರುವುದು ಗುಣ.

The word api, even so, comes in all three feet. That one word is the hinge. Lacking these things is no virtue; having them and not bending is.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಹಣ, ವಯಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ಅಧಿಕಾರ, ಈ ಮೂರೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸಿಗುವುದು ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಆಗ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಹೇಗೆ ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತಲಿನವರು ಬಹಳ ವರ್ಷ ನೆನಪಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Money, youth and authority arrive together only once or twice in a life. How a man behaved in that stretch is what the people around him remember for years afterwards.

ವಾರ್ಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಔಷಧ ಬರೆಯುವ ಹಕ್ಕು ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಕಿರಿಯ ವೈದ್ಯ ಇದೇ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹಕ್ಕು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ಎಚ್ಚರ, ಎರಡೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇರಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

A junior doctor who has just got the right to write orders on a ward is standing in exactly this test. The pleasure of having the right and the vigilance have to sit together.
